Sen. Moran to hold listening tour stop in Wyandotte County on Jan. 11
U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., will visit Wyandotte County as part of his Kansas Listening Tour on Monday, Jan. 11. Program offered on raising safe kids

Democrats to meet Jan. 16
Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will meet Saturday, Jan. 16, at The Dotte Spot Bar and Grill, 8123 Parallel Parkway. The guest speaker will be Paul Davis, the 2014 Democratic candidate for governor. Davis is the former Democratic leader of the Kansas House. A breakfast buffet will be available at 8:15 a.m. and the program will begin at 9:15 a.m. The event is open to all Democrats. The cost for the breakfast is $10, or $6 for students and those on limited incomes. Persons attending are not required to purchase a breakfast. Meet the library animals Jan. 16
Those attending a program Jan. 16 at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Environmental Library at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 4051 West Drive, (entrance of park near 91st and Leavenworth Road), will have the opportunity to meet the library animals. The program for all ages will be held at 10 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. Among the animals are a turtle, snake and salamander.
3rd Sunday Market to begin

Thuston to be keynote speaker at KCK King Day celebration Jan. 18
The keynote speaker of the Kansas City, Kan., Martin Luther King Holiday Celebration Jan. 18 will be Bishop Lemuel F. Thuston, speaking on the topic, “Re-igniting The Dream; All Lives Matter!” Bishop Thuston is the jurisdictional prelate of the Kansas East Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ. Providence to offer stop smoking classes
Providence Medical Center, 8929 Parallel Parkway, will offer free stop smoking classes beginning Monday, Jan. 18. The program will provide support and individualized planning for those who want to quit smoking. Classes will cover preparations to quit, reasons for quitting, handling stress, understanding withdrawal symptoms, exercising, coping strategies and more. Classes will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, Jan. 18, 20, 25, 27; April 18, 20, 25 and 27; and Oct. 17, 19, 24 and 26. Downtown Shareholders to meet Jan. 20
The Downtown Shareholders will hold its quarterly meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Hilton Garden Inn, 5th and Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kan. To be discussed at the meeting are a survey funded by the Kansas Historical Society and the Unified Government Hollywood Casino grant. Eagle Days planned Jan. 23-24 at Wyandotte County Lake
The 15th annual Eagle Days event is planned Jan. 23-24 at Wyandotte County Lake. The event will be held at two locations, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library at the lake; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at Davis Hall at the lake. Birds of prey presentations will be held at both locations. Those presentations are at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Operation Wildlife will have live birds of prey on exhibit, including owls, hawks, falcons and eagles, and will give presentations that talk about the birds and their natural history. There will be crafts for kids, and eagle and waterfowl viewing over the lake. The event is free and open to the public.
Child-adult relationship enrichment program offered
The Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., will offer Child-Adult Relationship Enrichment (C.A.R.E.) in three parts, beginning Jan. 25. The program is offered on three Mondays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from Jan. 25 to Feb. 8. It is presented by Michelle Bertuglia-Haley, MSW, LSCSW, LCSW, Child and Family Therapy Team of Children’s Mercy. Certificates of attendance will be given out at the end of three sessions.
