Strawberry Hill Museum open on weekends
The Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., is open on the weekends. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Renaissance Festival continues with ‘Oktoberfest’
The Renaissance Festival will continue Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Oct. 10-12 near 126th and State in Bonner Springs. Gates open at 10 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, each festival day, rain or shine. The event is open on weekends and Columbus Day. “Oktoberfest” is the theme of the Oct. 10-11 weekend. Featured are a farmer’s market, trick-or-treating, craft beer tastings, free arts and crafts for kids, a costume contest and eating contest. The “Harvest Huzzah” will be the theme on Columbus Day, Oct. 12, where the events will include a farmer’s market, Monday Funday, Ladies’ Shopping Day, educational programs, free arts and crafts for kids, a costume contest and an eating contest. Brain tumor workshop to be Oct. 10
If you or someone you love been recently diagnosed with a brain tumor, you may benefit from the knowledge and suggestions shared by brain tumor specialists from The University of Kansas Cancer Center. Old Quindaro Museum plans fundraiser Oct. 10
The Old Quindaro Museum is holding a fundraiser from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at 3432 N. 29th St., Kansas City, Kan. For a $20 donation, visitors will get a tour of the museum, food, music and two drink tickets. The fundraiser is for repairs to the building. The museum, part of the Underground Railroad network to freedom, displays the history of the Quindaro area including a Wyandotte National of Oklahoma and Kansas City Chapter display. Storytelling by the campfire at Grinter Place
Grinter Place state historic site, 1420 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kan., will gather around the campfire at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, for Old West stories and American Indian folklore. Vigil to be held Oct. 12 to commemorate infants
October is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Month, and a vigil will be held in Wyandotte County to commemorate babies of Wyandotte County families. Project HOPE, Wyandotte County’s Fetal Infant Mortality Review, seeks to raise awareness of high levels of pregnancy and infant loss in the county and also provide a space for families to both grieve and celebrate their babies’ lives. Mayor’s Listening Tour to be Oct. 13 at Turner High School
Mayor Mark Holland’s Listening Tour next will visit District 6 at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at Turner High School, 2211 S. 55th St., Kansas City, Kan. Mayor Holland will make remarks, along with commissioners, and then comments of residents will be heard in small discussion groups. The Listening Tour will gather information from residents on their priorities on countywide initiatives. It is based on the scheduled retirement of the sales tax revenue (STAR) bonds in 2017, which can result in the county receiving an additional $12 million a year, according to UG officials. Halloween Howl planned Oct. 17 at Wyandotte County Museum
The Wyandotte County Museum is planning a Halloween History Howl event from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the museum, 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs. The event is for children aged 2 to 16 years old. Pumpkin painting, storytellers, face painting, balloon artists, a magician, animal educators, train rides, Ident-A-Kid, fire trucks, popcorn and cotton candy are part of the activities to be offered. The cost of the event is $5 for children 2 and up, and free for adults 17 and older. Children may wear their Halloween costumes.

Two community advocacy organizations are joining to bring the Harlem Book Fair to Kansas City, Kan., to promote literacy and cross-cultural dialogue. Annual Wyandotte County Veterans Day commemoration to be Nov. 7
The annual Wyandotte County Veterans Day commemoration will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Salvation Army Harbor Light Village, 6723 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The event is presented by the Kansas City, Kan., Women’s Chamber of Commerce. This year’s event, from 10 a.m. to noon, will include a special recognition of Vietnam War veterans, on the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. The Kansas City Kansas Community College 4.0 Gala is Oct. 24 at Lake Quivira. The fundraising event includes an auction.
