Strawberry Hill Museum open on weekends
The Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., is open on the weekends. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The admission charge is $7 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12, and free for children under 6. Special tours are available during the week for groups of 20 or more by calling 913-721-0081. Wyandotte County Museum open
The Wyandotte County Museum, 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and holidays. A Classic Car Cruise is planned from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at 500 Kindleberger Road, Kansas City, Kan. The event will be sponsored by the UAW Local 31.
Special UG meetings planned June 1 and 8
Special sessions of the Unified Government will meet at 4 p.m. Monday, June 1, and Monday, June 8, in the fifth floor conference room, Suite 515, 701 N. 7th St., City Hall, Kansas City, Kan. There will be a meeting of the Committee of the Whole to discuss the capital maintenance improvement plan (CMIP) and Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
On June 1, two UG standing committee meetings, Neighborhood-Community Development, and Economic Development and Finance, are planned starting at 5 p.m. on the fifth floor.
Free summer movies offered June 2-4
Free family-friendly movies will be offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. at the Legends 14 Theatres in Kansas City, Kan. The free movie on June 2-4 will be “Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit.” The movie is rated G. Doors open at 9 a.m., all ages may attend. Seating is limited to availability on a first-come-first-serve basis. The schedule is subject to change. Current feature films are not included in the free admission.
BPU to meet June 3
The Board of Public Utilities will meet at 5 p.m. June 3 at the BPU officces, 540 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. On the agenda for the work session will be an update from the general manager and board, followed by a closed 45-minute session to discuss litigation. The regular BPU meeting will begin at 6 p.m. June 3. On the agenda for the meeting are a time for visitors to speak; an update from the Wyandotte Economic Development Council; the April financial report and other reports; board comments, general manager comments, and a closed session.
UG to meet June 4
The Unified Government Commission will meet at 7 p.m. June 4 at the Commission Chambers, lobby level, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan. An agenda is expected to be posted online a few days before the meeting.
Swap meet planned June 4-5 at Kansas Speedway
A swap meet is planned June 4-5 at the Kansas Speedway, I-70 and I-435 in Kansas City, Kan. The event is open to the public. Hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 4 and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 5. Items such as automotive parts, motorcycles, tools, antiques and other items are expected to be available at the swap meet.
Art exhibit to continue June 5
The Wyandotte Art Association’s group exhibit celebrating 50 years of art in Kansas City, Kan., has been held over and will continue at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 5, at the Alcott Arts Center, 180 S. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan. Women’s Chamber to meet June 10
The Kansas City, Kan., Women’s Chamber of Commerce will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, at the South Branch Library, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Leavenworth Road Association, Parks and Rec plan fishing derby June 13
The Leavenworth Road Association and the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department are planning a free kids’ fishing derby June 13 at the Wyandotte County Lake kids fishing pond, 91st and Leavenworth Road. Registration is at 7 a.m. The event is from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Trophy presentation is at 11:30 a.m. There will be free goodies bags, free hot dogs and free bait. The event is for ages 3 to 15. DAR chapter Medal of Honor Remembrance Service rescheduled
The Wyandot Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter’s Medal of Honor Remembrance Service originally planned at 10 a.m. June 13 at the Highland Park Cemetery, 4101 State Ave., will be rescheduled in September, according to an announcement. Three Civil War Medal of Honor recipients will be honored.
Free concert offered June 13 at Legends
The “Live at the Legends” concert series will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at The Legends Outlets, I-70 and I-435, Kansas City, Kan. Big Time Grain Company, a country and country rock band, will perform from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at The Legends, near the courtyard fountain area in front of the theaters. The concert is free and open to the public. Other concert dates include June 20: Dino O’Dell and The Doo-Dads, children’s music; June 27: The Zeros, new wave 1980s; July 11: Red Guitar, transcendent melodic rock music; and July 18: Perpetual Change, 1980s and 1990s rock (with some hits from the 2000s).
