Exhibit on Prohibition to visit Wyandotte County Museum
“Spirited: Prohibition in America,” a National Endowment for the Humanities traveling exhibition, will visit the Wyandotte County Museum from April 6 to May 25. The exhibit covers the history of Prohibition, which started in 1919 and continued 13 years. The museum is at 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs. Hours of the exhibit are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The exhibit is free to the public. Strawberry Hill Museum open on weekends
The Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., is open on the weekends. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The admission charge is $7 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12, and free for children under 6. Special tours are available during the week for groups of 20 or more by calling 913-721-0081. NAACP to meet May 5
The Kansas City, Kan., Branch NAACP will meet on Tuesday, May 5, at the Bethany Medical Center, 2nd Floor Meeting Room, 21 N 12th St., Kansas City, Kan. The executive meeting will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the general membership meeting at 7 p.m. The WIN (Women in NAACP) Committee will also be meeting at 5 p.m. May 5. Workshop to be offered May 8
A workshop, “How the Stigma of Mental Illness in the African-American Community Impacts Treatment,” will be presented from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, May 8, at the Faith Deliverance Family Worship Center, 3043 State Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The free workshop is presented by Mental Health America of the Heartland. The workshop presenter will be Dara Gill Fletcher, a psychotherapist at Truman Medical Center Behavioral Health. Food Truck Friday to be May 8 in downtown KCK
Food Truck Friday will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 8, in the parking lot across from the Hilton Garden Inn, 520 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Deco Street Eats will be there with a food truck.

Croquet matches planned
Croquet at the CORKhouse is planning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, at 509 Armstrong, Kansas City, Kan. Besides croquet, there will be refreshments.

Cinco de Mayo parade and festival planned May 9

A Cinco de Mayo parade and festival is planned at 11 a.m. May 9 in downtown Kansas City, Kan. The festival runs until 11 p.m. May 9. The event is sponsored by Brotherhood Bank and Bonito Michoacan. The parade floats will line up at 4th and Minnesota Avenue. The parade route is along Minnesota Avenue from 4th to 18th Street. Judges will be at the Bonito Michoacan Restaurant at 14th and Minnesota. Floats must be entered in advance of the parade.

Rosedale Retro Run planned
The Rosedale Retro Run, a 5k-fun run, will be held Saturday, May 9. There also will be a community trail work day and a mountain bike jam. There will be a finish line party at Fisher Park. Race registration will be $20 per person in advance and $25 on the day of the race. Kids may participate for free. For more information or to make reservations, email Ahnna at [email protected].

KCK Women’s Chamber to meet May 13
The Kansas City, Kan., Women’s Chamber of Commerce will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, at the West Wyandotte Branch Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kan. Networking will begin at 11:30 a.m., with a lunch and program planned from noon to 1 p.m. The cost of lunch will be $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Rachel Merlo of Google will speak about Google Fiber and the Start-Up Village in the Kansas City area. Insurance commissioner to be guest speaker at Fairfax meeting May 14
Kansas Insurance Commissioner Ken Selzer is expected to be the guest speaker at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, May 14, at the Fairfax Industrial Association meeting. The meeting will be at the UAW Local 31 hall, 500 Kindleberger Road, Kansas City, Kan. Those who want to attend are asked to make reservations by 5 p.m. May 12 to [email protected]. The cost of the luncheon is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers.

Ethics Commission to meet May 14
The Unified Government Ethics Commission will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at the second floor, Wyandotte County Courthouse, Division 18, in the old county commissioners’ chambers.

UG Commission to meet May 14
The Unified Government Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, at City Hall, Commission Chambers, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan. An agenda is expected to be posted a few days in advance of the meeting at www.wycokck.org.

Bike rodeo returns May 16
The Kiwanis West Bike Rodeo returns to the Schlitterbahn parking lot Saturday, May 16. The ninth annual event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon May 16 at the Schlitterbahn waterpark, 9400 State Ave. Tips on cycling safety, free bike safety helmets, T-shirts and a look at Schlitterbahn attractions will be the highlights of the day.

Classic car show planned
A Classic Car Cruise is planned from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at 500 Kindleberger Road, Kansas City, Kan. The event will be sponsored by the UAW Local 31.

DAR chapter plans Medal of Honor Remembrance Service
The Wyandot Daughters of the American Revolution Chapter will conduct a Medal of Honor Remembrance Service at 10 a.m. June 13 at the Highland Park Cemetery, 4101 State Ave. Three Civil War Medal of Honor recipients will be honored. They are William Patrick Hogarty, William Henry Ward and Maximillian Rudolph Wilhelm von Grebe (William Grebe). The chapter will be assisted by Delaware Crossing and Monticello chapters of DAR, Sons of the Revolution and the Children of the American Revolution.

Keeler Women’s Center, a ministry of the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., offers individual and couples counseling to women and men who might otherwise not be able to afford counseling.
