Exhibit on Prohibition to visit Wyandotte County Museum
“Spirited: Prohibition in America,” a National Endowment for the Humanities traveling exhibition, will visit the Wyandotte County Museum from April 6 to May 25. The exhibit covers the history of Prohibition, which started in 1919 and continued 13 years. The museum is at 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs. Hours of the exhibit are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The exhibit is free to the public. Strawberry Hill Museum open on weekends
The Strawberry Hill Museum, 720 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan., is open on the weekends. The museum is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The admission charge is $7 for adults, $3 for children 6 to 12, and free for children under 6. Special tours are available during the week for groups of 20 or more by calling 913-721-0081. Financing College’ program offered April 13
Kansas City, Kan., Public Schools is holding a “Financing College” event from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 13, to provide high school seniors and their families with resources to help them apply for college financial aid. The event will be at the Central Office and Training Center, 2010 N. 59th St., Kansas City, Kan. Staff will be available to help complete FAFSA forms. ServSafe class offered April 14
A ServSafe class will be offered Tuesday, April 14, for school, food service employees, certified dietary managers and those who are interested in food service employment. The classes also are for everyone who handles any type of food service or group meals. KCKCC to hold annual blood drive April 14
You can help save a life with just a few minutes and some of your life-saving blood. The Kansas City Kansas Community College Blood Drive is from 8:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, in Room 2325 on the KCKCC main campus, 7250 State Ave. The event is sponsored by the KCKCC Student Senate. Free pizza will be available to those who donate. Anyone who is at least 16 years old, healthy and weighs at least 115 pounds is eligible to donate blood. NAACP to meet April 14
The Kansas City, Kan., Branch NAACP will meet on Tuesday, April 14, at the Bethany Medical Center, second floor meeting room, 21 N. 12th St., Kansas City, Kan. The executive meeting will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the membership meeting at 7 p.m. The WIN Committee will meet at 5 p.m., the same day and place. Members are encouraged to attend the meeting. The Leavenworth Road Association will meet at 6 p.m. April 14 at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd, Kansas City, Kan. A potluck dinner and social hour will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a meeting at 7 p.m.

KCKCC to hold Workplace Kansas City Job Fair April 15
Looking for a job? Then mark your calendars for the 2015 Workplace-Kansas City Job Fair at Kansas City Kansas Community College. The fair is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 15 in the KCKCC Field House, 7250 State Ave. The fair opens at 9 a.m. for military veterans. The event is free and open to the public.

Community Orchestra to present concert April 16
The Kansas City, Kan., Community Orchestra under the direction of Jeff Beck will give a spring concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at London Heights Baptist Church, 734 N. 78th St., Kansas City, Kan. The family concert will include works by nine composers, ranging from music with ties to regional folk idioms to modern pop repertoire. Dress is casual and admission is free. Downtown Shareholders to hold Food Truck Friday
The Downtown Shareholders will hold a Food Truck Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 17, in the parking lot across from the Hilton Garden Inn at 520 Minnesota Ave. Deco Catering will provide the food. The next Food Truck Friday is planned for the second Friday of May.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection day to be April 18
The next day for Household Hazardous Waste Collection will be April 18. The collection site at 2443 S. 88th St., Kansas City, Kan., will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, for household hazardous waste collection. It is south on 88th Street from K-32. All items brought to the site should be labeled or identified. There is a limit of 10 tires, with rims removed. Other items accepted include motor oil, batteries, antifreeze, degreasers, paints, varnishes, solvents, lawn and garden insecticides, pesticides, and household cleaning products. Other dates for collection will include May 16, June 20, July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19 and Oct. 17.

Bus tour planned for museums and historical sites in Wyandotte County
The Wyandotte County Museums and Historical Sites bus tour will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 23. The tour begins with check-in from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Wyandotte County Historical Society Museum, 126th and State. Some of the stops on the bus tour are these museums: Clendening History of Medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Cener, Strawberry Hill Ethnic Museum and Cultural Center, Old Quindaro Museum. Swearing-in ceremony April 23 for new UG commissioners
A swearing-in ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at City Hall, Commission Chambers, lobby level, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan. The full commission will meet at 7 p.m. April 23 at City Hall in the Commission Chambers. An agenda may be found a few days before the meeting at www.wycokck.org.

Town Hall meeting planned for 8th District on April 29
An 8th District Town Hall meeting is planned from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the Eisenhower Community Center, 2901 N. 72nd St., Kansas City, Kan. The meeting will be held by UG Commissioner Jane Philbrook, 8th District. Residents may learn about developments in the 8th District and talk about their ideas and concerns.

Rosedale Retro Run planned
The Rosedale Retro Run, a 5k-fun run, will be held Saturday, May 9. There also will be a community trail work day and a mountain bike jam. There will be a finish line party at Fisher Park. Keeler Women’s Center, a ministry of the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., offers individual and couples counseling to women and men who might otherwise not be able to afford counseling.
