Food service class to be Nov. 13
The ServSafe Food Handlers Course will be offered Nov. 13. The last ServSafe class of 2018 will be offered from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13. The class is for food service employees, including anyone interested in food service employment. The cost of the class is $10, which includes class material, a work book and a certificate. A “Stay Strong, Stay Healthy 2019” class will start March 5. The class is offered a few times a year and provides an exercise program for older adults that targets strength, balance and flexibility. NAACP to meet Nov. 13
The Kansas City, Kansas, Branch of the NAACP will meet on Nov. 13 at 21 N. 12th St., Suite 230, Kansas City, Kansas. The meeting was changed from Nov. 6 because of Election Day. The branch election of officers and executive committee will be from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by the regular executive committee meeting at 6 p.m., and the regular membership meeting at 7 p.m. Members are encouraged to participate in the branch election and regularly monthly meetings.

Democrats to meet Saturday, Nov. 17
Speakers at the Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will be former State Rep. Bill Reardon and State Rep. Pam Curtis, D-32nd Dist. They will discuss the results of the Nov. 6 general election. Former Rep. Bill Reardon was in the Kansas Legislature for 30 years, from 1974 through 2004. Rep. Curtis has been a state representative for five years, and is a past staff member for the late Mayor Jack Reardon, former Gov. John Carlin and former Mayor Joe Reardon. The breakfast meeting will begin with a buffet at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at Las Islas Marias, 7516 State Ave. The program will begin at 9 a.m. The cost of the buffet is $10, or $6 for students and those on limited incomes. Those attending are asked to RSVP to [email protected] by Friday, Nov. 16. While sending in the RSVP is not required, it is encouraged. Those attending do not need to purchase a breakfast. The meeting is open to all Democrats.

Historical Writers’ Book Fair planned Nov. 18
The public will have an opportunity to visit with authors at a Historical Writers’ Book Fair from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the George Meyn Community Center in Wyandotte County Park, Bonner Springs. The Wyandotte County Historical Society will sponsor the free event. More than 20 authors plan to attend and will be available to answer questions about local history and what it takes to be an author.
