Piper schools to hold budget hearing Monday, Aug. 13
The Piper Public Schools will hold a public hearing on the budget at 6:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Piper High School, 4400 N. 107th St., Kansas City, Kansas. A 3.38-mill increase is proposed, according to the published budget. The budget would increase from the 2017-2018 budget’s 58.421 mills to 61.804 mills for 2018-2019. Expenditures would rise around $5 million, from $30,194,891 in 2017-2018 to $35,648,956 in 2018-2019, according to the proposed budget. Fairfax budget hearing to be Aug. 14
A budget hearing for the Fairfax Drainage District will take place at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 1620 Fairfax Trafficway, Kansas City, Kansas. The proposed budget for 2019 that was published listed an estimated tax rate of 17.405 mills, as compared to the 2018 tax rate of 13.484 mills. Total expenditures for 2019 were estimated at $2.38 million, as compared to $1.93 million in 2018. Assessed valuation was listed at $102 million in 2019 as compared to $91.8 million in 2018 and $108 million in 2017.

KCKCC budget hearing to be Tuesday, Aug. 14
The Kansas City Kansas Community College Board of Trustees will hold a budget hearing at its meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14. The meeting will be in the upper level Jewell Building on the KCKCC campus, 7250 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The proposed mill levy is the same as last year, 27.384 mills. Expenditures from 2017 to 2018 were $74.8 million, and would increase to $81.76 million under the proposed 2018-2019 budget. Assessed valuation in the area served by the college increased by about 7.8 percent. After the budget hearing, the Board of Trustees meeting will take place. Grinter Jamboree to be Aug. 14
The Grinter Jamboree will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Grinter Barn, 1400 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kansas. MP3 will perform, with the guest artist, Arnie Johnson. Admission is $5 per person.

Fairfax group to meet
The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet for a luncheon from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at WestPro Construction Solutions, 2850 Fairfax Trafficway, Kansas City, Kansas. U.S. Rep. BPU to meet Aug. 15

Votes to be canvassed on Aug. 16
Wyandotte County’s Board of Canvassers will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Election Office, 850 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The board will decide whether to count provisional votes.
