Heart health to be discussed at Women’s Chamber meeting Feb. 14
Heart health will be the theme of the Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, meeting of the Kansas City, Kansas, Women’s Chamber of Commerce. The meeting will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Keenan Education Center, Auditorium C, at Providence Medical Center, 8929 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas. It is scheduled in conjunction with American Heart Month during February. The guest speaker will be Dr. Venkat R. Pasnoori, who will speak on peripheral artery disease. Providence Medical staff will be on hand after the program to conduct a simple, free peripheral artery disease screen for anyone interested. Also scheduled to be in attendance at the program will be Dr. Mistee Allen, a family medicine physician with Providence Medical Group. She will give a short presentation and will be available for questions about women and heart health. The cost of the event is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Harlem Renaissance history and art events continue at library
The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library’s Harlem Renaissance art event will continue with events Feb. 12, 15 and 17. A documentary, “Been Rich All My Life: Classy Hoofers of Harlem’s Golden Age,” will be presented at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Turner Community Library, 831 S. 55th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The film features the Silver Belles. All ages may attend the film showing. At 6 p.m. Feb. 15, there will be an event at the South Branch Library, 3104 Strong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. African-American art and artists will be discussed in a presentation by the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art on Feb. 15, and there will be an art project. “A Night at the Savoy” is planned at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave. The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra will perform hits from the 1920s in a re-creation of the atmosphere of the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem. Black history banquet planned Feb. 17
The 26th annual Black History and Scholarship Banquet will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Reardon Convention Center, 5th and Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program is being offered at sites in Kansas City, Kansas. The volunteer-based program offers tax assistance for those over 50 and also for persons who qualify by income.
