Spaghetti dinner to benefit Sisters, Servants of Mary, Feb. 4
A spaghetti dinner to raise funds for the Sisters, Servants of Mary, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at St. Patrick Parish Center, 94th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children under age 10. Carryouts will be available.

Program to include reflections on papal book
“The Joy of Love,” a book by Pope Francis, will be the topic of a program from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The program will include an introduction, reflection and discussion on the book, which is about the vocation of the family. Kevin Kuehl and Eric Couto, Jesuit novices, will present the program. Workshop offered to strengthen child-adult relationships
A C.A.R.E. workshop (Child-Adult Relationship Enrichment) will be offered from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 6 and 20, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The workshop will provide assistance for relationships with children who have had trauma or stress in their lives. Free haircuts offered Feb. 7

BPU scheduled to meet Feb. 7
The Board of Public Utilities is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the BPU administrative building, 540 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. A work session will begin at 5 p.m. On the agenda for the work session are a board update, general manager update, and an informational technology strategic focus discussion. On the agenda for the regular meeting at 6 p.m. are a visitors’ time, election of officers, Eagle Days report, Topeka statehouse update, board comments, general manager comments, and a closed executive session.

Bomber history project to be topic of meeting Feb. 8
The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet for a luncheon from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Central Solutions, 401 Funston Road, Kansas City, Kansas. Dan Desko, with the B-25 bomber history project, will speak on the history of the B-25 bomber, which was built in Fairfax. Tickets to the luncheon are $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. UG Ethics Commission to meet

Leavenworth Road Association to meet Feb. 13
The Leavenworth Road Association will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd St., Kansas City, Kansas. Heart health to be discussed at Women’s Chamber meeting Feb. 14
Heart health will be the theme of the Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, meeting of the Kansas City, Kansas, Women’s Chamber of Commerce. The meeting will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Keenan Education Center, Auditorium C, at Providence Medical Center, 8929 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas. It is scheduled in conjunction with American Heart Month during February. The guest speaker will be Dr. Venkat R. Pasnoori, who will speak on peripheral artery disease. Providence Medical staff will be on hand after the program to conduct a simple, free peripheral artery disease screen for anyone interested. Also scheduled to be in attendance at the program will be Dr. Mistee Allen, a family medicine physician with Providence Medical Group. She will give a short presentation and will be available for questions about women and heart health. The cost of the event is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Black history banquet planned Feb. 17
The 26th annual Black History and Scholarship Banquet will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Reardon Convention Center, 5th and Minnesota Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas. The guest speaker is Aaron Thomas, a native of Kansas City, Kansas, who is executive producer of the CBS series, S.W.A.T. Greater Kansas City Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast to be March 1
The 57th annual Greater Kansas City Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at the Kansas City Downtown Convention Center Ballroom, 301 W. 13th St., Kansas City, Mo. The guest speaker at the breakfast will be Lamar Hunt Jr., owner of the Kansas City Mavericks hockey team. The breakfast is co-sponsored by more than 30 area mayors. This year the breakfast will benefit the nonprofit Sheffield Place of Kansas City, which helps homeless mothers and their children become more self-sufficient.
