Speedway to hold Swap Meet July 18-19
Looking for something automotive? Or maybe an antique? Look no further than Kansas Speedway on July 18-19 as the Speedway holds its first swap meet. The swap meet, which will have over 1,200 automotive related spaces, will take place in the Kansas Speedway infield from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 18 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 19. Kansas Speedway’s Garage C will have craft and collectible items. A car corral will be available with cars in the corral available for purchase on the day of the event. Tickets for each day are $5 per car and will be available on July 18-19. Richard Petty Driving Experience will be on track both days and concessions will be available in Sprint FanWalk. The Legendary 5K Run-Walk is planned at 8 a.m. July 19 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, 100 Village West Parkway, Kansas City, Kan.
Central Avenue Market Art Fair planned
The La Placita Central Avenue Market Art Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 19 at Bethany Park, 1100 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. There will be exhibits, booths, food vendors, music and dancing.
Democrats to meet July 19
The Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast will meet Saturday, July 19, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Eisenhower Room, 520 Minnesota Ave. Speakers will be Democratic primary candidates, including candidates for Congress and the open county judge position. The breakfast buffet begins at 8:15 a.m. and the forum begins at 9:15 a.m. The cost of the breakfast buffet is $10; or $7 for students and those on limited income. The meeting is open to Democrats. Live at Legends free concert to be July 19
The Legends Outlets, I-70 and I-435, will sponsor free family friendly concerts on some Saturday evenings during July and August in front of the center courtyard fountain. Funk Mama and Mr. Stinky Feet will perform from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 19. The Live at the Legends summer concert series will feature local and regional talent performing popular pop, classic rock and country hits from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and today. The concert series will take place at the center of the Civic Courtyard Fountain in front of Phoenix Theaters Legends 14.
Summer concert to be July 19 at Legends
Dave and Buster’s Summer Concert Series will continue at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 19, on the rooftop patio at The Legends Outlets. The Mickey Finn Band will perform from 9 p.m. to close July 19. Different bands will play on Saturdays through September.
UG to hold budget workshops
The Unified Government will hold special budget workshops in July in the fifth floor conference room, Suite 515, at City Hall, 701N. 7th, Kansas City, Kan. The meetings will be at 6 p.m. Monday, July 21; 5 p.m. Thursday, July 24; and 5 p.m. Thursday, July 31. The schedule is subject to change. Free summer movies offered
The Legends 14 Theatres will present “Doogal,” rated G, and “Epic,” rated PG, at 10 a.m. July 22, 23 and 24. Admission is free. All ages and groups are welcome. Doors open at 9 a.m. Seating is limited to availability. The current feature films are not included in the free admission, and the schedule is subject to change.
‘Zoo to You’ program to be July 19
Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library will hold a program featuring the Kansas City Zoo “Zoo to You” program from 1 to 2 p.m. July 19. Zoo educators, animals and touchable artifacts will be featured. Museum plans lock-in
An all-night lock-in is planned from 7 p.m. July 18 to 8 a.m. July 19 at the Wyandotte County Historical Museum, 126th and State. The event on July 18 is for girls ages 8 to 12. A safe night at the museum, tour, hands-on projects, evening snacks and a movie are planned. Boys will have a similar event on July 25. The cost is $25 per child. One adult must attend. Job readiness skills discussed
“Professional Etiquette via Life Skills for Job Readiness” is a workshop designed to help women assess their skills, set goals, and prepare for the interview and the job. The program is recommended for women seeking entry level positions or women who have had a hard time keeping a job. Participants will leave better prepared for an interview and feeling much more confident in their ability to find a job that matches their interest and skills. Night Out Against Crime to be Aug. 5
Night Out Against Crime will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Kansas National Guard Armory, 18th and Ridge, Kansas City, Kan. The guest speakers include Topeka Police Chief Ron Miller, former Kansas City, Kan., police chief; and Thomas Beall of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Kansas. Local elected officials also are expected to speak. Children and adults may attend. A yo-yo demonstration and competition is planned. Community groups also are attending the event. The first 100 who belong to a registered neighborhood group will receive a free T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded. Those attending will also have the opportunity to meet with members of the local Police and Sheriff departments.

The annual Wyandotte County Back-to-School Fair will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at two locations, Kansas City Kansas Community College, 7250 State Ave., and Boys and Girls Club Wyandotte County, 1240 Troup Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Students who live in Wyandotte County may participate. Parents should bring proof of residence. Children are required to attend. Immunizations are available to those who bring their immunization cards. Sports physicals will be available; a pre-participation examination form is requested. Dotte Trot to benefit SAFE fund
The Dotte Trot, a 5K and 10K run, will be run at 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at Wyandotte County Lake Park, 9100 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kan. All proceeds from the run benefit the Surviving Spouse and Family Endowment Fund. SAFE supports the families of law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency service personnel in the Kansas City metropolitan area who have died while protecting the community and citizens.
