Candidate forums planned July 24 and 25
Candidate forums are planned from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. July 24 and 25 at the St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church, 2200 N. 53rd St., Kansas City, Kansas. According to Richard Mabion of the NAACP, candidates for the Board of Public Utilities, Kansas City Kansas College Board of Trustees and Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Education will be at the forum on Monday, July 24. Candidates for Unified Government mayor-CEO, Wyandotte County Sheriff and UG Commission will be at the forum on Tuesday, July 25. The forums are open to the public. The hosts of the forums on July 24 and 25 are the Baptist Ministers Union of Kansas City, Kansas, and the Kansas City, Kansas, NAACP. The primary election is Tuesday, Aug. 1.
UG plans public hearing on budget on Monday, July 24
A Unified Government budget meeting is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 24, when a public hearing will be held on the UG and CDBG budget, according to the UG agenda. The budget public hearing is expected to be held in the Commission Chambers, lobby level, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas. After the hearing, a budget workshop could be held, if necessary. The budget is scheduled to be adopted at a meeting July 27.

Nine free concerts to be offered this summer at Legends Outlets
The Legends Outlets will continue its free outdoor concert series, Legends Live, on Saturday evenings this summer. Some of the performers will be local bands. The concert series will include nine performances from 5 to 7 p.m. June 10 through Aug. 5 at the Civic Courtyard Fountain at The Legends Outlets, according to a spokesman. A range of styles, including popular music, classic rock, rock alternative, rhythm and blues, country hits and selections from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and today will be featured. The concert series will end Aug. 5 with a family friendly performance tied to Legends Outlets’ Back-to-School event featuring children’s music, giveaways and activities. Wyandotte County Back-to-School Fair to be Aug. 5
The annual 2017 Wyandotte County Back-to-School Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at the KCKCC Community Technical Education Center, 6565 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The Back-to-School Fair is held for students who live in Wyandotte County who attend school (both public and private). Parents are required to provide proof of Wyandotte County residence. Parents and their children are invited to stop by for free school supplies. Free immunizations, physical exams, eye exams and free haircuts will also be provided. In addition to supplies, immunizations and physical exams, parents will have the opportunity to visit with representatives from a variety of community organizations who will offer information on services. Parents are required to bring proof of residence in Wyandotte County, such as a driver’s license or a utility bill and children must be accompanied by their parents at the Back-to-School Fair.
