Enrollment opens for adult education at KCKCC
On Jan. 9, there will be enrollment opportunities in the afternoon and evening at Kansas City Kansas Community College for ABE/GED and ESL classes. The afternoon ABE/GED enrollment will begin at 1 p.m. in lower CEB. Evening enrollment will be held for ABE/GED in lower CEB and ESL in lower Flint, both starting at 5 p.m. A $50 enrollment fee is due at the time of enrollment. A program on financial wellness will be presented at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the Bonner Springs City Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs. Learn how to track spending, set up a family budget, and develop a reasonable savings plan to meet emergencies and goals. This program is presented by K-State Research and Extension.

The Fairfax Industrial Association will hold its January luncheon on Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Board of Public Utilities’ offices, 540 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Sportscaster to discuss book Jan. 19
Kansas City sportscaster Danny Clinkscale, from WHB radio, will discuss his book, “Leaving Cancer for the Circus,” at a program at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Bonner Springs City Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs. The book is about facing cancer and surgery in the same year while covering two World Series and going on a journey through the Midwest.
Eagle Days to be Jan. 21-22 at Wyandotte County Lake
The annual Eagle Days event will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, and Sunday, Jan. 22, at Wyandotte County Lake Park in Kansas City, Kan. The host of the annual event is the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library at the lake park at 91st and Leavenworth Road. The 16th annual event will include opportunities to view eagles and other waterfowl, according to a spokesman. Both indoor viewing and possibly outdoor viewing will be available. A free family event, Eagle Days programs will be at the Schlagle Library and the James P. Davis Hall at Wyandotte County Lake Park. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Schlagle Library; noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the vis Hall, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Davis Hall. Weekend activities will include an arts and craft area for kids, and live bird demonstrations by Operation Wildlife featuring a variety of eagles, falcons, hawks and owls. Outdoor volunteers will help visitors with spotting scopes set up at lake sites near areas where eagles are known to visit. “Stay Strong, Stay Healthy,” an 8-week exercise program for older adults, will be offered beginning April 4. The program targets strength, balance and flexibility.
