Fundraiser held for Keeler Women’s Center
Fifteen percent of the value of purchases Nov. 14-20 at Ten Thousand Villages, 7947 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, will be donated to Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. A coupon on the Keeler website, www.keelerwomenscenter.org, should be presented at the event. From noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, persons may meet and talk with Keeler Women’s Center staff and volunteers at this event.
Legends holiday lighting ceremony to be Nov. 19
The Legends Outlets will hold its 12th annual Legendary Tree Lighting Ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19. The lighting ceremony will be at the courtyard fountain area, where a 45-foot tree will be in place. Live holiday music, prizes, a special appearance by Santa Claus, and a large display of animated lights synchronized to music are featured. There will be a countdown to the tree lighting. The lights will be on display through early January 2017. This event is free and open to the public.
El Centro plans 40th anniversary Nov. 19
El Centro plans its 40th anniversary celebration from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Embassy Suites Conference Center in Olathe, Kan. The event includes dinner, cocktails and dancing.
Community Thanksgiving dinner planned
The Do Better Together Turner Community Outreach Thanksgiving Dinner will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at Turner Recreation Center, 831 S. 55th. The free community dinner is sponsored by the Turner Community Connection, New Life Family Church and Turner Recreation Commission.

The Board of Public Utilities administrative offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, for the Thanksgiving holiday. ‘Miracle on 55th Street Lighting’ planned Nov. 26
The Turner Recreation Commission plans its “Miracle on 55th Street Lighting” ceremony from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26. The Turner Recreation Commission, 831 S. 55th, will be lit, along with lights on South 55th Street, and there will be caroling, hot cocoa and a movie, “The Polar Express,” on the Turner Recreation Commission screen.
Dialogue continues on reducing community violence
A dialogue on reducing community violence will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, at Sumner Academy, 1610 N. 8th St., Kansas City, Kan. It is sponsored by the Mayor’s Clergy Roundtable. Those who attend will be in groups of 10 to 15 people with a facilitator assigned to lead the dialogue. Police officers will join in the small group discussions. Another dialogue is scheduled at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the Patricia Diane Kane Community Center, 3130 N. 122nd St., Kansas City, Kan.

A community writing workshop facilitated by Anthony Funari will be held at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Bonner Springs City Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs. LRA scheduled to meet Dec. 13
