T-Bones play AirHogs in KCK
Friday night’s rained-out game will be continued at 5:05 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Aug. 20, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan., where the T-Bones will play the AirHogs. The game was stopped because of rain in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Kansas City trailed 3-2. After the end of the suspended game, the T-Bones will play a seven-inning game with the AirHogs. Gates will open at 5 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. Sporting KC takes on Vancouver Saturday
Sporting KC will play Vancouver at 9 p.m. Aug. 20 at Children’s Mercy Park, Kansas City, Kan. The All For the Summer Celebration will be held before the match, including activities a few hours in advance of it. Sporting KC (10-11-5, 35 points) is currently fifth in the standings, while eighth-place Vancouver (8-11-6, 30 points) is just two points outside the playoff picture. A limited number of tickets for the contest, including standing-room only tickets, are available at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 888-4KC-GOAL. Ticket holders to Saturday’s MLS match between Sporting Kansas City and Vancouver Whitecaps FC are encouraged to arrive early to Children’s Mercy Park for an All For the Summer Celebration leading up to kickoff at 9 p.m. That celebration begins around 7 p.m.

Craft program planned on repurposed picture frames

Recycled art program planned Aug. 25
Participants will decorate a canvas with recycled, and some new, materials in a recycled art program from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Class to teach how to preserve food by pickling
In this hands-on class, Lori Wuellner, Wyandotte County Extension Family and Consumer Sciences specialist, will teach about preserving food by pickling. The host of the class is the Wyandotte County Extension Master Gardeners. The class will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, in the Sunflower Room and kitchen at the Wyandotte County Extension Office, 1208 N. 79th St., Kansas City, Kan. Pre-registration is not required. BPU charity golf tournament to be Sept. 10

The BPU Employee Charity Golf Corp. will hold its annual Charity Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Dub’s Dread Golf Course in Kansas City, Kan. As part of its ongoing commitment to the community, BPU employees sponsor and hold this annual golf event which, to date, has raised nearly $500,000 for charities and nonprofits in Wyandotte County. The 2016 tournament kicks off with registration and a continental breakfast at 7 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m. The individual entry fee is $95, which includes greens fees, cart, a continental breakfast, refreshments on the course, and an awards dinner with prizes and free give-aways after the tournament. Victory Project’s annual blood drive to be Sept. 10 at Children’s Mercy Park
A blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Children’s Mercy Park, Kansas City, Kan. The Victory Project’s annual blood drive is being held in honor of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. ‘Stay Strong, Stay Healthy’ program offered
The “Stay Strong, Stay Healthy” program will focus on improving the health and well-being of older adults. The goal of the program is to provide a safe, structured and effective strength training exercise program that targets strength, balance and flexibility. The program is sponsored by the K-State Research and Extension office in Wyandotte County along with the Shepherd’s Center of Kansas City, Kan. It will be offered from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Sept. 27 at the Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave., Kansas City, Kan.
