KCK Street Blues Fest to be June 24-25
The Kansas City, Kan., Street Blues Festival will be held June 24 and 25.
The location for the festival is a new site, Lavender’s Circle L Ranch, 3924 N. 49th Drive, north of Leavenworth Road. The event features “king and queen” Kansas City Kelsey Hill and Linda Shell, along with performers Millage Gilbert, Ida McBeth, Danny Cox, D.C. Bellamy, Bill Carter, Diane “Mama” Ray, John Paul Drum and Bob and Diana Suckiel. Hours of the festival are 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 24, and noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 25. Bonner Springs plans Festival of the Arts June 25

Live at the Legends summer concert to be June 25
Legends Outlets will again offer free outdoor entertainment through its Live at the Legends Summer Concert Series on Saturday evenings in June and July. All concerts will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Legends Outlets’ Civic Courtyard Fountain, in front of AMC Legends 14 Theatre, at 1843 Village West Parkway, Kansas City, Kan. On June 25, Rusty Laffoon and The Broken Wagon Band, soulful country infused with rock ‘n’ roll, will perform.

1951 flood to be remembered at historical society meeting
The 1951 flood will be the topic at the June 26 meeting of the Wyandotte County Historical Society and Museum, 631 N. 126th St., Bonner Springs, Kan. It will be the 65th anniversary commemoration of the flood that caused severe damage to the Kansas City area, including Kansas City, Kan. The meeting will begin at 2 p.m.

Wyandotte High School Concert Band to give free concert at Kauffman Performing Arts Center
The Wyandotte High School Concert Band will give a free concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 26, at the Future Stages Festival at the Kauffman Performing Arts Center in Helzberg Hall in Kansas City, Mo. It will be a 20-minute performance. Program planned on anger

Benefit concert planned for slain detective’s family
The Kansas City, Kan., Community Orchestra, under the direction of Jeff Beck, will present a benefit concert June 30 for the family of Detective Brad Lancaster. Lancaster lost his life recently in the line of duty. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at Trinity Community Church, 5010 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kan. Admission is free. All donations should be made to The Brad Lancaster Foundation.

Class on garden photography planned July 7
A class on garden photography is planned at 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the Wyandotte County Extension Office, 1216 N. 79th St., Kansas City, Kan. Bruce Hogle will present the class, and the host is the Wyandotte County Extension Master Gardeners. There is a fee of $5 payable at the door. The class will show participants how to take beautiful photos of their gardens and closeups of flowers and wildlife. There will be information about using different lenses, filters and other photographic tools. Hogle’s photos are regularly published in Kansas! magazine and calendar. KCK Women’s Chamber going to lunch challenge at Harvesters
The Kansas City, Kan., Women’s Chamber of Commerce will go to Harvesters for the Lunch Challenge on Wednesday, July 13. Those attending will participate in a team-building program to help work toward a common goal and raise awareness about hunger. The event will be about two hours long. Harvesters is at 3801 Topping, Kansas City, Mo. The cost of the luncheon will be $25 per person.

Free workshop offered on ‘Take Control of Your Chronic Condition’
A free workshop for people with chronic diseases will start on Wednesday, July 13, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. “Take Control of Your Chronic Condition” is a free 2.5-hour workshop held each week for six weeks, and will cover chronic disease self-management and diabetes self-management. The workshop will be from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays. Facilitators of the workshop will be Nozella Brown and Lori Wuellner, family and consumer sciences agents from K-State Research and Extension, Wyandotte County. Spirituality-based journaling discussed

Spirituality-based journaling, “Righting Your Body, Mind and Spirit,” is planned from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, and Aug. 10 at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. No special writing skills are needed. There will be an emphasis on the importance of self-understanding. The program is presented by Pat Callaghan.
