Clark Middle School, Bonner Springs, soon will recognize its first class of National Junior Honor Society inductees.
Fifty-four seventh- and eighth-grade students will be inducted into NJHS at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28.
It is the first year Clark Middle School has participated in the program, and it is among only 21 middle school chapters in the state. The initial process in selection for NJHS was based on the area of scholarship. Students had to have a 3.8 GPA in order to be given an initial letter of eligibility. Those students then completed an application to determine their citizenship, leadership and community service.
Sarah Andaverde, NJHS sponsor, said the group was about more than just doing well in class.
“While it is important for students to be recognized for their achievements, it is also necessary for those students to be a positive academic and community model,” Andaverde said.
The students plan to coordinate with the Bonner Springs High School National Honor Society on several projects, including blood drives and a community clean-up.
Andaverde hopes NJHS members will take pride in representing CMS and the community.
“I want students to be noticed by teachers, peers and te community or being in the top of their class academically, and making their community a better place to live,” she said.
The induction ceremony will take place in the CMS auditorium.
