The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department Training Academy is accepting applications for the Spring Citizens Police Academy, class No. 42, which begins Monday, March 5, and continues through Wednesday, April 25.
The Citizens Police Academy classes are held twice a week, usually Monday and Wednesday evenings, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The participants of the Citizens Academy receive lectures and training that police officers have received and they are instructed by the men and women who work in their fields such as Crime Scene Investigations, SWAT Unit, Bomb Squad, Police Gun Range and others.
The goal is for citizens to leave with a better understanding of police operations and the organization by graduation. Training topics and dates may change. The schedule may include a couple of Saturday mornings. Details will be discussed during class.
The minimum age to participate in the Citizens Academy is 18 years old. The Citizens Police Academy is free for residents, business owners or stakeholders of Kansas City, Kansas, and Wyandotte County. All interested individuals must pass a criminal history background check. The Citizens Police Academy is held at the KCKPD Police Training Academy, 7340 State Ave., on the KCKCC campus.
