The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Citizen’s Academy will begin classes on Tuesday, Sept. 1, for the fall session.
The academy is held twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall, and meets for four hours a night, two nights a week, for seven weeks. Classes are at the Kansas City, Kan., Police Academy on the campus of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
It is part of the Police Department’s mission to partner and deliver quality police service, and is aimed at informing and educating residents.
The academy, which is open to interested residents who send in an application, has a mixed format of classroom lectures and field activities in a controlled environment.
Instructors are those who work in crime scene investigations, SWAT, bomb squad, criminal investigations and other areas.
This fall, the Citizen’s Academy will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Classes will end Thursday, Oct. 15.
