Charges filed in drug trafficking case

Jerome Birdsong, 33, Kansas City, Kan., has been charged in connection with drug trafficking, according to U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom’s office.

Birdsong was charged with one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of maintaining a residence at 2942 N. 47th Terrace in Kansas City, Kan., in furtherance of drug trafficking, and one count of unlawful possession of ammunition following a felony conviction.

The crimes are alleged to have occurred in 2013 in Kansas City, Kan.

If convicted, he faces a penalty of not less than 10 years in federal prison and a fine up to $10 million on the conspiracy charge, a maximum penalty of 20 years and a fine up to $500,000 on the charge of maintaining a residence for drug trafficking and a maximum penalty of 10 years and a fine up to $250,000 on the ammunition charge.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Erin Tomasic is prosecuting.
