Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens plans Memorial Day service May 29

Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens will hold its annual Memorial Day service at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 29, outside the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, on the grounds of the cemetery at 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

The event is free and open to the public.

The service will bring together veterans, patriots and citizens to honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The event will feature the popular “Avenue of Flags,” which lines many of the roadways inside the cemetery, created by volunteers with the American Legion, who also coordinate the placement of flags on the gravesites of veterans buried at Chapel Hill.

The service will feature a bagpiper, laying of a memorial wreath, a 21 gun salute, and the playing of taps by Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens General Manager, Joel Brinkley, which will also happen periodically throughout the weekend.

“The annual Memorial Day observance is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to the men and women who have served and who have sacrificed,” said Brinkley, general manager of Chapel Hill, a Dignity Memorial®provider. “We hope the families who join us for the service gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of honoring our military, whether that is those currently enlisted or veterans who served in the past.”

The Dignity Memorial network of providers has several initiatives to honor and support the nation’s veterans and active military. The initiatives and programs include the Veterans Planning Guide, the Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program, educational veterans seminars and special pricing for members of veterans service organizations.
