Chance of storms in afternoon and evening

There’s a 30 percent chance of isolated to scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and evening in Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.

Storms will move into eastern Kansas by the early afternoon, slowly advancing southeastward through the evening, the weather service said. The storms are most likely in Wyandotte County after 4 p.m., according to the weather service.

Hazards associated with this activity will be with the potential for strong to damaging winds and large hail, the weather service said. While flash flooding is not anticipated, some storms may produce brief periods of heavy rainfall, decreasing visibility and posing minor travel issues on roadways with accumulating rainfall, according to the weather service.

Storm coverage will increase during the overnight hours, the weather service said, though the severe potential will diminish as the evening progresses.

Today’s high will be near 80, with light and variable winds becoming east around 6 mph in the morning, the weather service said. There is a 30 percent chance of precipitation.

Tonight, there is a 70 percent chance of precipitation, with storms and showers likely mainly after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 62 with a southeast wind of 6 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Thursday, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 81, the weather service said. An east southeast wind of 7 to 13 mph will become south in the afternoon. Winds may gust as high as 18 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Thursday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 66, according to the weather service. There will be a south wind of 7 to 9 mph.

Friday, expect mostly sunny skies and a high near 84, the weather service said, with a south wind of 6 to 10 mph.

Friday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., according to the weather service, with a low of 68.

Saturday, expect a 50 percent chance of showers and storms, with a high near 84, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 65, according to the weather service.
