Remember the days of poodle skirts and sock hops? As you enter the Boulevard Drive-in, located at 1051 Merriam Lane in Kansas City, Kan., those memories come alive.
As a child my parents would take me to a drive-in and as I grew up I went to the drive-in many times. Still to this day I have fond memories of going to the drive-in.
I can remember the days when my cousin and I used to get 15-cent hamburgers and a Coke and take it to the drive-in. I can also remember the days when it was snowing out and we sat in our car and watched our favorite movie.
The Boulevard Drive-in always brings back those cherished memories I have while growing up. Many of you, like me, still have those fond memories, I can remember going to the Boulevard Drive-in on numerous occasions.
The one thing a lot of people do not know about the Boulevard Drive-in is it is known as the world’s greatest drive-ins. People drive for miles just to go to the Boulevard Drive-in. It’s truly one the best-kept secrets in Kansas City.
This is a place for the whole family, a safe place where you can take your children and see a good movie as well. The Boulevard Drive-in also uses high-technology to create digitally superior sound and pictures.
The Fourth of July is a very special day and this year, like the year before, I decided to go to the drive-in. The reason is simple: they have probably the best fireworks display in Kansas City Kan. On top of that they have some the best hot dogs, popcorn, cheeseburgers and hamburgers that you will ever have and it is reasonably priced as well.
Every year Glenn’s Appliances holds its annual company picnic there on the Fourth of July. Glenn’s Appliances is located on Minnesota Avenue in Kansas City, Kan. According to Glenn Eastman, one of the owners of Glenn’s Appliances, “We really enjoy this place.” It is great and “this is why we hold our annual company picnic,” he said.
Glenn’s Appliances provides the fireworks for this annual event and this year was even bigger than the previous year’s, truly a phenomenal experience. The fireworks display lasted an hour and a half. By far it is one of the greatest fireworks displays I’ve ever seen.
The food at the Boulevard Drive-in is reasonably priced and very good as well. I personally like hot dogs and they have some of the best hot dogs ever, not including the hamburgers and cheeseburgers which this year I decided to try. The staff at the drive-in is very well-trained.
Another little-known fact is that the Boulevard Drive-in is the birth place of one the first monorails ever developed. This happened in the early 1960s when monorails were first developed, well before Disney.
Plans are underway for the Fourth of July 2016. If you want to go to a place where you can bring the whole family, can enjoy a good movie, where the food is great, and the staff is great, this is definitely the place to go even if it’s not on the Fourth of July. As you enter the drive-in fond memories will come back to you. It is also rumored that the drive-in is haunted – that is still not proven.
