Special UG Commission meeting tonight on DA’s $1.7 million funding request

A special Unified Government Commission meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at City Hall in the UG Commission chambers, lobby level, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The meeting also will be on Zoom.

According to the agenda, a resolution is requested to authorize funding for digitization of district attorney case files. The effort was launched in order to track old cases that former detective Roger Golubski, who is under indictment, worked on.

Another item on the agenda is an update on winter warming shelters.

Look for higher temperatures today

Temperatures will reach a high near 59 today in Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Above normal temperatures and dry conditions will continue through Wednesday, the weather service said.

It will be a little cooler on Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, with highs near 52, according to the weather service. Scattered light showers will be possible.

More rain chances will arrive through the weekend, with rain and snow possible Thursday night through Saturday night, the weather service said.

Today, it will be sunny with a high near 59 and a south southwest wind of 6 to 9 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 36 and a south southwest wind around 7 mph, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 56 and a south wind of 6 to 11 mph, gusting as high as 20 mph, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, there is a 30 percent chance of rain after midnight, with a low of 44, according to the weather service. A south wind of 5 to 8 mph will become calm after midnight, with winds gusting up to 18 mph.

Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, there will be a 30 percent chance of rain, with a high near 52, the weather service said. A calm wind will become north northwest 5 to 8 mph in the morning.

Thursday night, there is a 20 percent chance of rain after midnight, mixing with snow after 3 a.m., with a low of 31, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 48, the weather service said.

Friday night, there is a 30 percent chance of rain and snow after midnight, with a low of 32, according to the weather service.

Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of rain and snow before noon, then a chance of rain, the weather service said. The high will be near 48.

Police investigating homicide on South 52nd Terrace

A shooting death is under investigation in the 1600 block of South 52nd Terrace, according to the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers were dispatched at 12:19 p.m. to the 1600 block of South 52nd Terrace on a shooting call, a spokesman stated.

They discovered a person who had died from an apparent gunshot wound, according to the spokesman.

A suspect was taken into custody shortly after fleeing, the spokesman stated.

According to the spokesman, the homicide is under investigation by the KCKPD Major Case Unit. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477), police stated. All tips remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.
