Extension plant sale today and Saturday

The K-State Research and Extension Master Gardeners Plant Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, May 2, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Extension Office, Wildcat Room, 1200 N. 79th St., Kansas City, Kan.

The public is invited to shop at the sale and support the Master Gardeners programs with their purchase of vegetable plants, flowers, and miscellaneous gardening items.

Sunny skies, with a high near 68, are in store for Wyandotte County today, according to the National Weather Service.

The wind will be from the west, at 8 to 13 mph.

Today, there is a heightened fire danger this afternoon over eastern Kansas, according to the weather service.

Tonight skies will be mostly sunny, with a high near 78. A light and variable wind will become north northwest around 6 mph in the morning. Saturday night, skies will be mostly clear, with a low of 55.

On Sunday, look for sunny skies, and a high near 86. A southeast wind is around 10 mph. Sunday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 58.

Monday’s forecast is sunny and a high of 82. Monday night, skies are mostly clear, with a low of 59.

On Tuesday, expect mostly sunny skies, with a high near 84. Tuesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 66.

Wednesday the weather will be mostly sunny with a high near 85.

Thursday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and storms. The high will be near 80.

Rotary recognizes outstanding teachers

The Kansas City, Kan., Rotary Club, at its April 29 luncheon, recognized outstanding teachers from each of Wyandotte County’s nine high schools.

This is an annual program of the Kansas City, Kan., Rotary Club to show appreciation to teachers in the county that represent the best of the community, a spokesman said.

The teachers were introduced by their school’s administrators and were presented a plaque of appreciation by the club.  A spokesman for the club said it was grateful to the teachers who give of themselves to educate and prepare youth for the future.
