Government offices closed for July 4 holiday

Government and many business offices will be closed for Independence Day, July 4.

in Kansas City, Kan., Unified Government and Board of Public Utilities offices will be closed Friday, July 4. They will resume regular business hours on Monday, July 7.

State and federal workers and the U.S. Postal Service also will take a holiday on July 4.

All of the branches of the Kansas City, Kan., Public Library also will be closed July 4.

Nearly perfect weather ahead today

It will be a nearly perfect day for weather in Wyandotte County.

Today’s high will be 80 degrees and the skies will be sunny, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight, mostly clear weather with a low of 61 in in the forecast.

For Friday, the Fourth of July, the forecast is sunny with a high near 84.

Evening hours are expected to be clear. There’s a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms late Friday night, after 1 a.m., according to the weather service.

Saturday’s forecast has a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms, and a high of 87 is predicted.

Sunday, skies will be mostly sunny and the high will be around 92.

Rollover accident injures one

A Hyundai car rolled multiple times in an accident July 2 on southbound I-435, south of Riverview, in Wyandotte County.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a Toyota car was passing the Hyundai on a ramp about 7:46 a.m. July 2. The ramp had only one lane.

The Toyota collided with the side of the Hyundai, causing both vehicles to lose control, the report stated. The Hyundai rolled multiple times.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 38-year-old Topeka woman, was injured and taken to a hospital, according to the report.

The driver of the Toyota, a 54-year-old Topeka man, was not injured, according to the report.
