Red flag warning in effect today

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 16 in Wyandotte County.

A wind advisory also is in effect today, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

The humidity will drop rapidly this morning, falling below 30 percent by 11 a.m. and below 25 percent from 1 p.m. through 6 p.m.

The low humidity, temperatures and wind mean there is a high risk of fire today, and all outdoor burning should be avoided.

This morning, the temperature was 48 and wind speed was 14 mph, gusting to 21 mph.

Today’s high will be near 67.

Wind gusts today could reach as high as 40 mph, the weather service said.

Thursday’s forecast contains a 30 percent chance of precipitation, and temperatures may reach 51. The chance of showers continues Thursday night.

There also will be a chance of rain on Saturday night and Sunday.

 

Freeze warning in effect

The Wyandotte County area underwent an overnight freeze, with the National Weather Service warning that some vegetation and crops may be affected.

The freeze warning was to end at 9 a.m. April 15.

The weather service said today’s temperatures should reach a high of 55. Sunny weather is forecast.

Tonight, the low will be around 42.

Wednesday, look for mostly sunny skies with a high of 67.

On Thursday, there will be a 50 percent chance of rain and a high near 51.

 

Snow falling in Wyandotte County

Snow was falling at 8:30 a.m. Monday in Wyandotte County.

Snow and a freeze warning are in the forecast, according to the National Weather Service.

The temperature was 33 degrees at 8 a.m. April 14, and the wind chill was 22.

Snow will possibly mix with rain today, then gradually end in the early afternoon.

Today’s high will be 41. The north wind will be around 17 mph with gusts as high as 26 mph.

The chance of precipitation is 60 percent, with less than a half inch possible.

Tonight’s low will be 29 degrees.

A frost warning has been issued for midnight through 9 a.m. April 15.

The weather service expects widespread frost after 4 a.m. April 15.  Tuesday’s high will be 55.
