There will be a heightened fire danger for Wyandotte County and the region this afternoon, and thunderstorms are likely on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

After summer-like temperatures reaching 87 today, along with winds from 15 to 21 mph and gusts as high as 29 mph, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers tonight after 1 a.m.

Thunderstorms could arrive by late Wednesday night with thunderstorms likely Thursday into Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service, some of the storms could become severe on Thursday. Hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats, with a very small risk of a tornado and localized flooding on Thursday.

Scattered thunderstorms are likely throughout Thursday morning.  The storms have a low probability of being severe. Strong to severe thunderstorms may redevelop later in the afternoon over eastern Kansas along a cold front that will advance east through Missouri, the weather service said.

Depending how well the atmosphere recovers, or destabilizes, from the morning storms will determine the extent and strength of any severe storms.

The severe risk will likely diminish during the evening hours. At this time, the main hazards appear to be large hail and damaging winds.

 

Today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 88. Winds will be south-southeast from 10 to 17 mph, gusting as high as 25 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

Tonight will see partly cloudy skies, with a low around 70. A south wind will be around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

On Wednesday, skies will be sunny with a high near 88. The weather will be breezy with a south wind from 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

On Wednesday night, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. The low will be 68. Breezy weather is in the forecast, with south winds from 17 to 20 mph, gusting to 28 mph.

On Thursday, showers and thunderstorms are likely. It will be cloudy, with a high near 75. The south wind will be around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.  The chance of rain is 70 percent.

On Thursday night, showers and thunderstorms are likely. The skies will be mostly cloudy with a low of 52. The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Friday’s weather is mostly sunny with a high near 72; Friday night, partly cloudy, with a low of 52.

On Saturday, look for mostly sunny skies with a high near 76. Saturday night, a chance of showers and storms is possible, with a low of 58.

Sunday’s forecast is a 50 percent chance of showers and storms, with a high near 76.

Monday’s forecast is sunny and a high near 86, according to the National Weather Service.

A south southwest wind will be 5 to 7 mph, becoming east northeast in the early afternoon.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low around 59.

The weather on Tuesday will be mostly sunny and 86. The east southeast wind will be 11 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Tuesday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 59. The wind will be 16 mph with gusts up to 24 mph.

On Wednesday, the high will be near 90 with mostly sunny skies. Wednesday night, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m. The low will be around 58.

Thursday’s forecast is a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 76.

Thursday night is a 60 percent chance of precipitation. Showers and thunderstorms are possible. The low will be 54.

On Friday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 70. Friday night, the low will be 52.

On Saturday, the high will be near 75 and skies will be mostly sunny. Saturday night, there will be a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The low will be 57.

On Sunday, there will be a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. The high will be near 78.
