Slight chance of rain in today’s forecast

Thunderstorm chances will increase slowly today into tonight, with the threat of storms persisting at least into early next week, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Today’s high will be near 88, and the chance of rain is 10 percent. Tonight, the chance of rain is 60 percent. Between a quarter and half of an inch of rain is possible mainly after 10 p.m.

Some thunderstorms could produce heavy rainfall tonight into Saturday, particularly across far northern Missouri and far northeast Kansas which may lead to localized flooding.

In addition, a few strong thunderstorms are possible on Saturday. Damaging winds are the primary threat with storms Saturday.

Saturday’s high may be near 89, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. A 30 percent chance of rain is also in Sunday’s forecast.

Nice weather ahead for Wednesday

Wednesday’s weather will be mostly sunny with a high near 83, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday, skies will be sunny again with a high of 85.

The weather starts to change Friday. After a high of 86 degrees during the day, with winds from 8 to 16 mph, gusting to 23 mph, there will be a 40 percent chance of showers Friday night.

On Saturday and Sunday, the chance of rain continues.

Today’s forecast includes a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, isolated thunderstorms are possible this afternoon into the early evening as a weak upper disturbance moves across the area. Severe weather is not expected.

Today’s temperatures may reach 82.

Saturday’s forecast is partly sunny with a high near 84. Sunday has a 40 percent chance of showers.

There are increasing chances for thunderstorms from Sunday to Sunday night as an upper disturbance and cold front moves through the region, according to the weather service. The best chance for it appears to be over eastern Kansas and western Missouri. The threat for widespread severe weather is low, although some areas of locally heavy rainfall will be possible.
