Rain today, followed by sunny weekend weather

As a cold front moves into the area, scattered thunderstorms will be present across the area through the day on Friday, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Severe weather is not anticipated.

Today’s forecast includes a chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly after 1 p.m. The high will be near 78. The chance of rain is 40 percent. A 50 percent chance of showers continues Friday night.

By Saturday the storms will be south of the area, with cooler temperatures prevailing through the weekend into early next week.

Saturday’s forecast is mostly cloudy, changing to sunny, with a high near 73. On Sunday, the forecast calls for sunny skies with a high near 76.

Several rounds of showers and thunderstorms can be expected by midweek next week, bringing a potential for several inches of rain. Severe weather is not anticipated.

Hot, windy weather in today’s forecast

In what might be the last blast of summer, today’s weather forecast calls for a high of 93 degrees, with a heat index as high as 99.

Winds will be 14 to 20 mph with gusts as high as 28 mph.

Thunderstorms will develop tonight as a cold front approaches.

The front will be slow moving with storm chances continuing through Friday and into early Saturday. Severe weather probabilities remain low at this time.

Temperatures will drop to a high of 77 on Friday, with a chance of storms, and 74 on Saturday, with partly sunny skies.

Thunderstorm rumbles through area

A thunderstorm moved through Wyandotte County on Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, the chance of showers and thunderstorms could continue through 2 p.m.

Wind gusts are possible with the storm, and new rainfall could be from a tenth to a quarter of an inch, and higher in some areas, according to the weather service.

After today’s storm, skies should remain clear until Thursday night, when there is another chance of thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m. The storms may continue Friday night.

The weekend forecast for Saturday and Sunday appears sunny with the highs in the 70s.
