Burn ban in effect today

With a National Weather Service forecast for Sunday, Nov. 2, of high winds for most of the day, residents are being asked to refrain from outdoor burning until further notice.

According to a news release from the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department, there is a concern that high winds may cause fire hazards.

The weather service stated today that because of high winds, low relative humidity and dry conditions, there is a danger of wildfires throughout the region this afternoon.

All residents whose burn permits expires today may go to the nearest fire station to request a burn permit for whenever the ban is lifted, a Fire Department spokesman said. Outdoor burn permits must be issued 24 hours before he three-day burn permit starts.

A south wind of 18 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph, is in today’s National Weather Service forecast. The high will be 61 degrees. Tonight, winds may be from 13 to 17 mph with gusts as high as 26 mph.

On Monday, the weather forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of rain, and possibly a thunderstorm. The forecast is mostly sunny, no rain, and a high of 57 for Tuesday, Election Day.

Bring in those plants and pets — freeze warning in effect tonight

A freeze warning is in effect from 10 p.m. Oct. 31 until 9 a.m. Nov. 1, according to the National Weather Service.

The first hard freeze of the season is expected tonight, as colder temperatures move into the area.

Any sensitive vegetation left unprotected outdoors will die, according to the weather service.

Any sensitive animals normally left outside should be provided shelter for warmth.

Tonight’s low will be 25 degrees. The wind will be 3 to 7 mph.

On Saturday, expect frost before 10 a.m. The day will be sunny with a high near 50. Winds will be south southeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning.

Saturday night, the low will be around 36, with winds 9 to 11 mph.

Sunday’s forecast is mostly sunny with a high near 60. Winds will be from the south from 14 to 21 mph with gusts of 29 mph Sunday.

There is a 60 percent chance of rain Monday and 30 percent Tuesday.

Hard freeze warning for Halloween

A hard freeze warning is in effect for Halloween, Oct. 31 evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Very cold air is expected to filter into the region on Friday, combining with light winds and clear skies to allow temperatures to fall below freezing by 10 p.m. Friday, the weather service said.

The temperatures will drop into the 20s throughout the area by sunrise on Saturday.

These temperatures are expected to effectively end the growing season for the region.
Today, the weather will be sunny with a high near 65. The north northwest wind will be 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

Tonight, the low will be around 39. The north wind will be 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.

Friday, look for sunny skies and a high near 44. The north wind will be from 10 to 14 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Friday night, Halloween, look for widespread frost after 3 a.m. The skies will be mostly clear, with a low around 26. The north wind will be 3 to 7 mph.

At 6 p.m. Friday, the temperature will be about 42 degrees, according to the weather service. By 9 p.m., it will be 34 degrees, and at midnight, it will be 31 degrees.

On Saturday, there will be widespread frost before 9 a.m. It will be 27 degrees around 6 a.m. The skies will be mostly sunny with a high near 47. A light east wind will become south southeast 5 to 9 mph in the morning.

Saturday night, the skies will be mostly cloudy with a low of 40.

Sunday, look for partly sunny skies with a high near 57.

Rain is in the forecast for Sunday night, when there will be a 30 percent chance of showers. On Monday, there will be a 50 percent chance of rain and a high of 61.

On Tuesday, Election Day, the forecast is partly sunny with a high near 56.
