Freezing rain advisory in effect this morning

A freezing rain advisory is in effect today now until 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

A scattered area of light showers will move through eastern Kansas and western Missouri during the next few hours. Temperatures remain below freezing across the area. The temperature at 8 a.m. was 32 degrees in Kansas City, Kan.

Freezing rain could be in Wyandotte County within the hour.

A light glaze of ice, especially on elevated surfaces, is expected across the area.

Roads may quickly become slick within a short time after precipitation begins. Motorists are advised to use caution on area roadways, be prepared for slippery roads and slow down while driving.

Today’s forecast calls for scattered rain or freezing rain before 4 p.m., then a slight chance of rain between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Today’s high will be near 39, with a southeast wind of 3 to 5 mph. The chance of rain is 30 percent.

Tonight, there will be a chance of drizzle after midnight, with a low of 33.

Thursday, there will be a chance of drizzle before noon, with a high near 45.

Thursday night, the chance of drizzle continues, with a low of 39.

Friday, expect mostly cloudy skies and a high near 55. Friday night, there will be a chance of drizzle and patchy fog, with a low around 46.

Temperatures dropped slightly today as a cold front moved through the area last night, according to the National Weather Service.

A 30 percent chance of rain moves into the area on Wednesday, mainly after noon, the weather service said. Wednesday’s high will be near 38.

Wednesday night, there is a chance of drizzle, and the low will be around 33 degrees.

On Tuesday, the temperature drops several degrees, and the high will be near 37. Skies will be mostly sunny and a north wind will be from 3 to 8 mph. Tuesday night, expect partly cloudy skies and a low of 26.

On Wednesday, the high will be near 40. Wednesday night, the low will be 34. There is a slight chance of patchy light rain.

Temperatures will rise on Thursday, when skies will be partly sunny with a high near 48. The low will be 37 on Thursday night.
