A little snow was falling in Wyandotte County at 10 p.m. Jan. 31.

The National Weather Service is calling for a mix of rain and snow until 2 a.m., then a mix of snow and sleet after that.

The temperature was 35 degrees at 10 p.m., according to the weather service.

Sunday’s forecast includes snow, mainly before 11 a.m., the weather service said.

Temperatures will fall throughout the day, falling to around 21 by 5 p.m., the weather service said.

A major storm is expected north of the Kansas City area, according to the weather service.

Rain today, snow possible Sunday

The National Weather Service predicts rain today and possibly snow Sunday in Wyandotte County.

The temperature was 40 degrees at 1 p.m. Saturday, which will be near the top temperature of the day, according to the weather service.

Between a tenth and a quarter of an inch of rain is possible Saturday.

After midnight, Wyandotte County could get a mixture of rain and snow, according to the weather service. The overnight low will be 34. The weather service said that temperatures will be very close to freezing, and a very small difference in temperatures could mean the difference between several inches of snow and little to no snowfall.

Temperatures will fall to about 21 degrees by 5 p.m. on Sunday, according to the weather service. There will be a 50 percent chance of snow. According to the weather service, there might be less than an inch of snow on Sunday in the Kansas City area, with higher accumulations north of the Kansas City area.

Winds on Sunday could be 5 to 10 mph in the morning, increasing to 19 to 24 mph in the afternoon and gusting as high as 33 mph, the weather service said.

Sunday night, it will be cloudy, with a low around 10, according to the forecast. The wind chill values will be between minus 1 and 4. North northwest winds will be 16 to 21 mph, gusting to 29 mph, decreasing to 9 to 14 mph after midnight, the weather service said.

Monday’s forecast is mostly sunny with a high near 29, according to the weather service. Winds will change from north northwest from 6 to 8 mph to south southeast. Monday night, the low will be around 24.

Tuesday, temperatures are back up to nearly 47 degrees with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said. Wednesday’s high will be near 33.

Snow may return this weekend

Snow returns to the forecast for this weekend.

It could be late Saturday night or early Sunday morning before the area sees some snow, according to the forecast.

Friday’s daytime high will be 43. The National Weather Service said there is a 40 percent chance of rain and snow after midnight tonight, with a low around 33.

On Saturday, there is a 90 percent chance of precipitation, with some rain during the daytime hours, when it will reach a high of 41, according to the weather service.

Saturday night, there could be rain before midnight, then rain and snow between midnight and 3 a.m., the weather service said. Snow is likely after 3 a.m., according to the weather service.

The Saturday night low will be about 30 degrees, and there is a 90 percent chance of precipitation, the weather service said.

Sunday, a 40 percent chance of precipitation continues, and there will be a chance of snow, according to the weather service. The high will be near 33. Winds of 5 to 10 mph will increase to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon, gusting as high as 28 mph, the weather service said.

Sunday night, the low will be around 12, the forecast said.

Monday, according to the weather service, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 29. Monday night, the low will be around 22.

Tuesday, it will be warmer, with a high near 45. Tuesday night’s low will be around 22, according to the weather service.

The weather service said that Wednesday will be partly sunny, with a high near 33. Wednesday night’s low will be around 11.

Thursday, expect a high near 29 with mostly sunny skies, according to the weather service.
