More rain possible through Thursday

After storms moved through Wyandotte County overnight and this morning, the chance still remains for more rain today through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

A round of isolated showers is possible later this afternoon, the weather service said.

Rain and a few thunderstorms are expected to increase overnight around midnight, according to the weather service.

The best chance for accumulating rainfall will be along and north of the Missouri River, the weather service said. The risk of flooding is higher in central and eastern Missouri.

Rain and thunderstorms may continue until around 1 p.m. today, then more rain is possible tonight through Thursday, the weather service said.

There is a chance of high wind gusts with the storms this afternoon. Winds could reach 60 mph in a storm, and there is a chance of a brief spin-up, according to the weather service.

A flash flood watch will be in effect for some areas of the region tonight through Tuesday morning, the weather service said.

A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday, the weather service said.

Heat illnesses are possible, and the weather service urged residents to take precautions. Residents should drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors, according to the weather service.

Young children and pets should not be left unattended in a vehicle.

Those who work or spend time outside should take extra precautions. If possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening, according to the weather service.

Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothes when possible. Those outdoors should schedule frequent rest breaks in shaded areas or air-conditioned rooms. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a shaded or air-conditioned area, and if it is heat stroke, call 911.

Rain and thunderstorm chances will increase Sunday into Monday, with more chances for rain throughout the week, according to the weather service.
