Hot weather today, storms possible tonight

Hot and humid temperatures today could reach 93 with a heat index in the low 100s, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

There is a chance of scattered storms and showers late this afternoon into the evening hours, the weather service said.

A few of the storms could be strong to severe with strong wind gusts and hail the primary threats, according to the weather service.

Storms may develop by mid-to-late afternoon Monday to the west, then spread southeastward as a cold front pushes through the area, the weather service said.

Straight-line wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail the sizxe of quarters could be possible with this storm, according to the weather service.

The severe weather threat is expected to diminish after sunset, the weather service added.

Moderate to heavy rainfall may be possible, according to the weather service.

Today, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m., with a high near 93, the weather service said. The heat index could rise to 102, with a southwest wind of 6 to 10 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.

Tonight, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 66 with a west wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Tuesday, it will be sunny, with a high near 86 and a north wind of 5 to 9 mph, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be clear, with a low of 61 and a north wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.
