More rain possible tonight

Rain moved through the Wyandotte County area this morning, and another round of thunderstorms is possible tonight through Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service forecast.


There may be gusty southerly winds this afternoon, with gusts as high as 33 mph, the weather service said.

A few thunderstorms tonight may be strong, with small hail and localized winds, according to the weather service.

Wyandotte County could receive a quarter to a half-inch of rain over Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather service said.

Temperatures today may reach a high near 80, then after a cold front moves in, Wednesday’s high could be around 73, according to the weather service.

Today, there is a 30 percent chance of rain in the morning, with skies gradually becoming mostly sunny with a high near 80, the weather service said. A south southwest wind of 14 to 20 mph will gust as high as 33 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.

Tonight, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 10 p.m. and 1 a.m., then showers are likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 58 with a south southwest wind of 10 to 16 mph becoming west northwest after midnight. Winds may gust as high as 34 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Wednesday, there is a 10 percent chance of thunderstorms before 7 a.m., the weather service said. It will be mostly cloudy through mid-morning, then gradually clearing, with a high near 73. A northwest wind of 7 to 11 mph will gust as high as 22 mph.

Wednesday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 46 and a northwest wind of 6 to 8 mph, gusting as high as 18 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be sunny, with a high near 65 and a west northwest wind of 7 to 17 mph, gusting as high as 32 mph, the weather service said.

There is a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms tonight, and an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms on Tuesday night, according to the weather service.

From a quarter-inch to a half-inch of rain is possible with these storms, the weather service said.

A few storms could be strong with small hail and gusty winds, according to the weather service.

The storm will be moving into the area from the south and southwest.

Today, Columbus Day, it will be sunny, with a high near 81 and a calm wind becoming south southwest around 6 mph in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, there is an 80 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 57 with a south southwest wind of 10 to 14 mph, gusting as high as 31 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is likely.

A frost advisory will be in effect from 1 a.m. Oct. 8 through 9 a.m. Oct. 8, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

A freeze and frost are expected Saturday morning, as some areas of the region could experience low temperatures in the 30s, the weather service said. Wyandotte County’s forecast for the overnight low is 37.

Residents are advised to protect cold sensitive vegetation, according to the weather service. A cold front moved through the area on Thursday night and Friday morning, the weather service said.

Mostly dry conditions are expected through the forecast period, worsening drought conditions, according to the weather service.
