Victim of fatal traffic accident identified

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department has identified the pedestrian who was struck and killed while crossing the street in the 4200 block of Metropolitan Ave. last Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Martin Gomez, 87, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, was transported to a hospital where he later died, according to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, police.

This incident remains under investigation by the KCKPD Traffic Division, the spokesman stated.

Truck overturns on I-70 ramp

A truck overturned on an I-70 ramp about 1:10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, according to a Kansas Turnpike Authority trooper’s crash log.

A Freightliner pulling a trailer was on the ramp to northbound I-435 from eastbound I-70 at highway speeds, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver applied the brakes while entering the right-handed curve but the trailer overturned, followed by the truck, the trooper’s report stated. The truck and trailer came to rest off the left side of the ramp on the driver’s side, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver, a 35-year-old man from Regina, had a possible minor injury and was taken to a hospital, the trooper’s report stated.

The trailer and truck were from Saskatchewan, Canada.
