Highway projects ongoing in Wyandotte County
Several Kansas Department of Transportation projects are ongoing in Wyandotte County.
The projects include:
The reconfiguration of the Turner Diagonal interchange in Wyandotte County. The new diverging diamond interchange has been built, with clean up and seeding ongoing.
Truck staging areas on I-70 are open, although a new public restroom at a staging area was closed last week for plumbing work, and is expected to be closed until sometime in the first week of January.
The northbound College Parkway-Turner Diagonal Freeway is open.
For the Lewis and Clark Viaduct bridge project, westbound I-70 will be closed past Broadway Boulevard in Missouri to 3rd Street in Kansas City, Kansas.
Ramps that are cloed include from 5th Street, Beardsley Road, Independence Avenue at Delaware Avenue and I-35 to westbound I-70 in Missouri.
Also closed are ramps from westbound I-70 to Minnesota Avenue, Washington Boulevard and Fairfax Trafficway.
Bridge maintenance on Seventh Street (Highway 169) will include truss and expansion joint repair on the Kansas River bridge.
Work will occur during daytime hours, Monday to Friday, and completion is expected in mid-June 2021. Weekend and night work may take place to close the bridge and for placement of traffic control equipment and detour signs.
In early spring 2021, when work resumes, the northbound lanes will be closed again. Southbound lanes are tentatively scheduled to close in April 2021 for approximately 60 days. The previous detour route will be used.
For installation of a work platform, intermittent single lane closures are planned on the Seventh Street bridge (Highway 169) at the Kansas River, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from last week through Thursday, Dec. 31, weather permitting.
