A woman who was standing outside her vehicle on the outside shoulder of I-670 was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver at 2:58 a.m. June 1.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s crash log, the woman had been in a Ford Escape that stopped on eastbound I-670.
An unknown vehicle hit the woman as she was standing outside her vehicle, then the unknown vehicle fled, according to the trooper’s report. There was no description of the other vehicle.
The 26-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, woman had a possible serious injury and was taken to a hospital, the trooper’s report stated.
Update: Five of the six victims have been upgraded to stable condition, with one remaining in critical condition, according to police. Also, police now have confirmed that some of the occupants were teens.No one was under 16.
East and westbound lanes of State Avenue between 73rd and 75th streets, were closed and expected to remain closed for several hours due to a two-vehicle crash that occurred around 4 a.m. Monday, a police spokesman stated.
All occupants of both vehicles were taken to area hospitals – five in serious and one in critical condition. Several occupants were teens, and two of the victims had to be extricated, the Kansas City, Kansas, police spokesman stated.
The cause of the accident has not been determined, but based on the debris field it is likely that speed was a contributing factor, the police spokesman stated.
