T-Bones release catcher

The Kansas City T-Bones have released catcher Leo Rojas. The move will allow Rojas to retire from professional baseball.

Leo Rojas was signed by the Kansas City T-Bones on March 23, 2017. The native of Punto Fijo, Venezuela, played in 48 games for the T-Bones in 2017 and hit .251 with five home runs and 24 RBI.

In his lone season in Kansas City, Rojas set career highs in games played (48), runs (23), hits (43), doubles (11), home runs and RBIs.

Rojas was originally drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 2012 MLB draft from Miami-Dade College, Kendall Campus in Miami, Florida.

The catcher spent parts of four seasons in the Giants organization before his release in June of 2016. Rojas retires as a career .250 hitter in 142 minor league games with 10 home runs and 72 RBI.

CommunityAmerica Ballpark to get a new name

CommunityAmerica Ballpark, the home of the T-Bones baseball team in the Village West area of Kansas City, Kansas, will have a new name.

According to an announcement by the T-Bones, a new naming partner is being sought for the stadium. The current agreement with CommunityAmerica Credit Union has expired.

“We’ve had 15 years with them, and it’s a little bit bittersweet seeing them move on, but it is a success story,” Adam Ehlert, president of the T-Bones, said.

When CommunityAmerica started as the stadium sponsor 16 years ago, they were relatively unknown, he said.

“We helped them grow and they are pushing up against the big guys in the market,” Ehlert said.

Ehlert said the T-Bones have been talking to some prospects for the naming rights.

“We wanted to make sure we didn’t miss the right opportunity,” he said. A big name or big brand, or a smaller business that wants to grow may be interested in naming the stadium.

CommunityAmerica’s leadership acknowledged the T-Bones’ role in their growth, in a news release.

“Our partnership with the T-Bones has been a highlight for our organization. We enjoyed countless employee and member experiences at the ballpark, which created opportunities for us to grow our presence in the greater Kansas City communities,” said Rick Schier, chief member officer of CommunityAmerica, in a news release. “CommunityAmerica Ballpark will forever be in our hearts, and I encourage other local companies to consider how a partnership with the T-Bones can support their business goals,” Schier said.

T-Bones add infielder

Infielder Angel Rosa has signed for next season with the Kansas City T-Bones.

Rosa, a native of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, mostly recently played for Bridgeport in the Atlantic League. He had two home runs, 16 runs batted in and hit .266 in 66 games with Bridgeport.

Rosa played 44 games at second base and 13 at shortstop this past season. He also played three games at third base, and pitched in one game.

Rosa also played for four seasons in the Los Angeles Angels system in Anaheim. He was drafted in 2013 from Alcorn State University, Lorman, Mississippi.

Before playing at Alcorn State, Rosa attended the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy. Rosa has a career .963 fielding percentage and has gone 46-for-60 in stolen bases.
