T-Bones drop home opener, 6-2

Frank Mason III, a basketball standout for the University of Kansas who now plays for the Sacramento Kings, threw out the first pitch for the season opener Tuesday night of the Kansas City T-Bones. The T-Bones lost to Gary SouthShore, 6-2.

Tommy Collier took the loss, after struggling in five innings of pitching for the T-Bones. He allowed three runs in the top of the first inning.

The T-Bones scored in the sixth inning when Keith Curcio doubled, then Zach Walters hit a sacrifice fly.

In the seventh inning, Dylan Tice hit a single, scoring Jordan Edgerton, giving the T-Bones another run.

Attendance was 5,029.

The T-Bones play Gary SouthShore again at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at T-Bones Ballpark. Tickets are available at www.tbonesbaseball.com or at the T-Bones box office at the T-Bones Stadium.

T-Bones ready for home opener tonight

The Kansas City T-Bones are set to open the 2018 season tonight.

This will be the T-Bones’ 16th season in Wyandotte County, and they are planning a summer of baseball, all starting with the series beginning at 7:05 p.m. today.

All home games are played at T-Bones Stadium, 1800 Village West Parkway, near I-70 and I-435 in Kansas City, Kansas. Parking is free.

The Gary South Shore RailCats will face the T-Bones tonight. The first 1,500 persons at the game will receive T-Bones T-shirts.

Frank Mason III, who plays basketball for Sacramento after starring at the University of Kansas, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

There also is a pregame fly-in by the Falcon Skydiving team. Two-for-one choice level tickets are on special tonight, at two for $13.

Wednesday, May 23, the T-Bones will play Gary at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,500 fans will receive a magnet schedule. It’s also Sizzle’s Homerun Readers Redemption night.

In addition, on May 23 it will be Warrior Wednesday, with a free ticket for any level with a military identification, retired or active. Warrior Wednesday is sponsored by War Horses for Veterans.

Thursday, May 24, at 7:05 p.m., will be Dilly Dilly Night, with a Pit of Misery, Throne and Beer Pitcher Race.

It also will be Throwndown Thursday, when beer is $1.50 and hot dogs are $1.50.

The T-Bones will be on the road from May 25 to May 31. They will return home for a three-game series June 1 to June 3 featuring post-game meet the team night on the field, Bull Durham Tribute Night, kids campout and on-field yoga.

Frank Mason III to appear at opening night for the T-Bones Tuesday

Frank Mason III, who was the consensus national player in 2017 with the University of Kansas and now plays for the Sacramento Kings, will appear at opening night with the Kansas City T-Bones Tuesday, May 22, in Kansas City, Kansas.

The game begins at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday against Gary SouthShore at the T-Bones Stadium. For ticket information, visit www.tbonesbaseball.com.

Plans are for Mason to throw out the first pitch and to sign autographs for 40 minutes between 6:50 and 7:30 p.m. He will sign autographs for those who buy a ticket to his charity softball event, Frank Mason and Friends, on June 16.

In his first year in the pros, Mason averaged 7.9 points per game. In 2017, Mason was the AP Player of the Year, USA Today Player of the Year and Sporting News Player of the Year.
