T-Bones in championship game tonight in KCK

The Kansas City T-Bones return home tonight with their best-of-five-games in the American Association Championship Series with the St. Paul Saints, a series currently tied at 1-1.

The T-Bones are playing in their first championship games since 2010.

Friday night the pre-game festivities will include the Falcons Skydivers. Nate Tenbrink, a T-Bones player in 2015 and 2016, and a former player for Kansas State drafted by the Seattle Mariners, and recently playing baseball in Mexico, will throw out the first pitch tonight.

All games this weekend will feature $1.50 hot dogs and $1.50 beers. All tickets are priced at $8, and there is also a special on suite tickets, priced at $10 (minimum purchase of 15).

The game tonight starts at 7:05 p.m. at T-Bones Stadium, 1800 Village West Park, Kansas City, Kansas.

The T-Bones beat Sioux City in the best-of-five-games Southern Division Series with a win last Sunday in Iowa. Then they hit the road and won the opener in St. Paul, 11-4, but dropped game two, 6-0.

The T-Bones hold a franchise best 62-37 record this season. The T-Bones are led by American Association Manager of the Year Joe Calfapietra. Todd Cunningham was honored as an all-star this year and Tommy Collier was awarded Pitcher of the Month in both July and August. Kansas City legend Frank White is the T-Bones’ first-base coach.

T-Bones drop Game 2 of championship series to Saints, 6-0

It was a tough night for the Kansas City T-Bones Wednesday, as they took the field for Game 2 of the American Association Championships, leading the series 1-0.

Back-to-back home runs in the sixth, including a two-run shot by former T-Bone Zach Walters, helped seal a 6-0 Kansas City loss.

After being defeated by seven runs Tuesday evening, the St. Paul Saints put the first run on the board Wednesday night and took their first lead of the series.

Both teams were scoreless going into the bottom of the fourth when Max Murphy hit a hard grounder that was misplayed by Mason Davis, and landed Murphy on second. He moved up on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Kyle Barrett.

In the bottom of the fifth, Justin O’Conner reached on a lead-off walk, which was followed by a Nathaniel Maggio infield single. Back-to-back fielder’s choice hits by Dan Motl and Joey Wong brought O’Conner home for the Saints’ second run of the game and a 2-0 lead.

Relief pitcher Joe Filomeno came in for starter Hunter Adkins in the sixth. Sioux City’s Brady Shoemaker walked, then former T-Bone Walters blasted a two-run home run, putting the Saints up 4-0. On a 3-1 pitch, the next batter, Dante Bichette Jr., hit a solo shot to and it was 5-0 St. Paul.

Nick Lee worked the seventh in relief for the T-Bones. Murphy singled and moved to third on a pair of wild pitches. A two-out single to right by Barrett then brought Murphy home to make it 6-0 Saints.

That’s where the score stayed as the T-Bones fell with a final score of 6-0. Saints starter Eddie Medina worked eight scoreless innings, giving up only three hits and striking out five.

Both teams are off Thursday for travel and will play the third game of the best-of-five series at 7:05 p.m. Friday at T-Bones Stadium in Kansas City, Kansas. The series is tied, 1-1.
