T-Bones win, 10-6

The T-Bones’ offense attacked the RedHawks’ pitching early on Monday, scoring seven runs in the first four innings with the help of three two-run bombs, and they gave starting pitcher Dylan Baker all the run support he needed to secure his first win of the young season.

Kansas City drove in 10 runs off of 13 hits and defeated Fargo-Moorhead in a one-game series, 10-6.

The T-Bones are scheduled to continue the seven-game homestand at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at T-Bones Stadium in Kansas City, Kansas, as they play the Milwaukee Milkmen.

In his second start for Kansas City, Baker cruised through five innings, allowing two runs, only one earned, and two hits while striking out six batters. Baker is now 1-0 on the season with a 6.75 ERA.

Fargo-Moorhead got the scoring started early. In the top of the first inning, after an error in the outfield by left fielder Ryan Brett allowed the leadoff runner to advance to third, the RedHawks were able to connect for a sacrifice fly to take an early 1-0 lead.

However, Kansas City countered in the bottom of the frame, recording three straight hits. After Brett singled to right to start the inning, Darnell Sweeney launched his fourth home run of the year to dead center to give the lead back to the T-Bones, 2-1.

Kansas City struck again in the bottom of the second inning. Following a base hit by Roy Morales, Mikey Reynolds stepped up to the plate and ripped a 1-1 pitch into deep center field for a two-out RBI-triple that plated Morales to make it 3-1 in favor of the T-Bones.

With Sweeney on base after being hit by a pitch, Franco lined a home run that was just fair to left field and gave the T-Bones a four-run lead.

In the fourth inning, after Morales poked his second base hit of the day through the right side, Brett redeemed himself for his error in the first inning and launched a no-doubter home run to deep left field to give the T-Bones a commanding 7-1 lead. Kansas City would not relinquish its lead.

Fargo-Moorhead made some noise in the top of the eighth and ninth innings and scored two runs in each frame while attempting to mount a comeback, but the T-Bones’ lead proved too much for them to overcome.

A slew of T-Bones hitters drove in runs with Brett, Sweeney, O’Malley, and Reynolds all driving in two runs apiece. Sweeney led the T-Bones offense with a two-hit performance as well as two RBIs, two runs scored and two walks while raising his average to a team-leading .440.

On Sunday, the T-Bones dropped a game to the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 4-2, in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. It was a chilly 48 degrees outside, and the T-Bones got only five hits in the game.

The T-Bones move to 6-3 on the season and will continue their seven-game homestand on Tuesday, May 28, at 7:05 p.m. as they play the Milwaukee Milkmen. The game can be heard on the T-Bones Broadcast Network with the pre-game beginning at 6:40. T-Bones Live Pre-Game show will air at 6:15 p.m. on Facebook Live.

T-Bones finally get games in, and win doubleheader

It’s been a long two days waiting for the Kansas City T-Bones and the Lincoln Saltdogs to play just one game in their three-game series because of the dreary weather in Kansas City, Kansas.

Wednesday night nothing was stopping them from playing two games including a short 15-minute delay in the second inning of game one because of rain.

The T-Bones and the Saltdogs resumed the game like it had never stopped and Kansas City rallied twice, once to tie the game and send it to extra innings and the second to walk off winners 9-8.

Every T-Bone player who started the game had at least one hit in the contest as the ball was knocked all over the ballpark for 14 hits. From the first inning the bats were alive as Lincoln scored three runs in the top of the first on five hits only to see the T-Bones come back to take the lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The T-Bones erased a 3-0 deficit on a two RBI double from Carlos Franco and a two-run home run from Casey Gillaspie off Lincoln starter Kyle Kinman. Both starters Dylan Baker of the T-Bones and Kinman settled down and worked three more scoreless innings for their clubs as the teams went to the fifth inning with a 4-3 Kansas City lead.

Marc Magliaro came in for Kansas City in relief in the top of the fifth. The Saltdogs immediately responded against the T-Bones pen.

Christian Ibarra singled to start the inning and Tyler Moore hit a two-run home run to right and it was 5-4 in favor of Lincoln. Cody Regis drove in another run with an RBI single and it was a 6-4 game.

Kansas City was down to its final three outs in the seventh as Lincoln brought in right-hander Cody Blueberg. Out of nowhere Casey Gallaspie hit the ball to center and was able to travel to second base for a stand-up double. Then Christian Correa drove in Gallaspie with a single to cut the lead to one. Ramsey Romano pinch ran for Correa and was driven in on a single by Forrestt Allday, tying the game at six.

The game headed into a wild eighth inning. Kevin Lenik came into the game for Kansas City out of the bull pen. Lenik struck out Nick Schultz but walked the next two batters. Ivan Marin singled to drive in one run and Christian Ibarra singled again to drive in another, giving Lincoln an 8-6 lead.

Jake Hohensee took over for Lincoln and it took two pitches to pull the T-Bones within one run on a solo shot to right field by Darnell Sweeney, cutting the lead to 8-7.

Shawn O’Malley and Carlos Franco each walked to put runners at first and second. Casey Gillaspie hit a fly ball to left for an out, but then Hohensee walked Roy Morales to load the bases. Daniel Robertson hit a double to left center to score O’Malley and Franco to give the T-Bones a walk-off win, 9-8.

Pitching the key to Game 2

While the offense was strong in the first game, pitching was the key for the T-Bones Wednesday night, as Randall Delgado (2-0), Nick Lee, and Carlos Diaz spun a collective seven scoreless innings to lead Kansas City to victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs 3-0 in this seven-inning nightcap of Wednesday’s doubleheader.

Delgado was able to set the tone early on the mound, firing two hitless innings with four strikeouts. He ultimately went on to strike out 10 in five innings of work, giving up three hits and walking one, while keeping Lincoln scoreless.

Nick Lee took over for him in the sixth with as scoreless inning of his own. Carlos Diaz followed suit with a scoreless seventh, striking out two. Overall, T-Bones pitchers struck out 13 and only allowed 3 hits as they led Kansas City to a win.

As for the offense, the T-Bones had trouble getting on the board until Darnell Sweeney blasted a rocket to left field, just out of the reach of the outstretched glove of centerfielder Colton Burns to drive in Roy Morales.

O’Malley then followed it with a single, making the score 2-0 as Sweeney raced home. They tacked on one more run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Shawn O’Malley, sending Mikey Reynolds home. That would be all the offense they needed, as the T-Bones were able to shut the door in the later innings of the game.

Randall Delgado picked up his second shutout win of the season, while Shairon Martis only lasted until the fourth, when he had to leave the game because of a possible injury. He picked up the loss, moving to 0-2, giving up two earned runs. Carlos Diaz closed it out and picked up the save for Kansas City.

The T-Bones move to 4-1 on the season and will enjoy an off day before they travel to Winnipeg to take on the Goldeyes for a three-game series this weekend. The Saltdogs’ record drops to 3-3, and they are set to play the Railroaders in Cleburne on Thursday.

The T-Bones and Goldeyes games this weekend will be on Mixlr and t-bonesbaseball.com.

Veterans fair to be held June 8 at T-Bones Stadium

The T-Bones and Humana are joining forces on June 8 for a food drive and other services for veterans and their families.

The family and veterans fair will be held at the T-Bones Stadium in Kansas City, Kansas, on June 8.

The T-Bones and Humana will hold a drive to gather enough food donations for 5,000 meals for veterans and families, and also will hold a veterans fair June 8 in the T-Bones parking lot. In the Kansas City area, nearly 14 percent of the community face food insecurity, which is the lack of access to enough nutritionally adequate foods to live an active, healthy life.

At the T-Bones game June 8, fans, veterans and their families may meet with veteran service organizations and other local nonprofits, where they can access information and services that will help them. Organizations include Harvesters food bank, After Action Network and Partners in Primary Care, among others.

The T-Bones will wear military-inspired jerseys especially designed for this game. The jerseys will be auctioned during the game, with proceeds going to the Veterans Community Project.

A community food drive is now underway, and people may drop off nonperishable food items in barrels at several locations, including participating Hy-Vee stores, Partners in Primary Care centers and VFW posts.

“We are excited to honor those who have served our country and to partner with Humana for the 2019 season,” said Scott Steckly, the T-Bones vice president of corporate sales. “Humana is a great corporate citizen in Kanas City, and we appreciate their focus on helping veterans gain access to food and a healthier lifestyle.”

Humana recently joined with local nonprofits to raise 50,000 meals for veterans and their families.

“Our collaboration with the T-Bones expands our Bold Goal outreach and helps us to address the demand for supplemental food and other services in the Kansas City Metro area,” said Jeremy Gaskill, Humana’s regional president. “Joining the T-Bones gives Humana another opportunity to meet the needs of the community at a place where people come together to have fun and cheer on their favorite team.”

The T-Bones are scheduled to play a doubleheader at 5 p.m. tonight, May 22, at T-Bones Stadium in Kansas City, Kansas. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for ticket information, or visit www.tbonesbaseball.com.
