by Luke Schrock

After a long drought, the Kansas City T-Bones took game two of the four-game series against the Milwaukee Milkmen in Kokomo, Indiana, by a 4-3 final.

After a few innings of battling, Ramsey Romano hit a 2-run home run, giving the T-Bones their first lead since KC’s last win against the Milkmen at home.

Milwaukee answered in the 8th inning with an RBI single by Jose Rosario, but KC’s closer Eduardo Paredes put the game to bed to secure the end of the 6-game losing streak.

Kansas City is now just one game away from .500, sporting an 8-9 record, while the Milkmen stay under .500 another day with a 8-11 record.

The winning pitcher was T-Bones Tommy Collier (1-2), and credited with the loss was Milwaukee’s Angel Ventura (1-3). Eduardo Paredes came in for one inning of work and earned himself his first save of the season in a T-Bones uniform.

T-Bones’ losing skid continues in Kokomo

The Kansas City T-Bones started their series with the Milwaukee Milkmen on Monday night in Kokomo, Indiana, ready to break their five-game losing skid. Despite their ninth inning rally, they could not beat the Milkmen, losing the game, 7-4.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Milwaukee Milkmen (8-10) attacked first, grabbing an early lead of 2-0. The Milkmen used a lead of triple by Nolan Earley to set the tone.

After trailing for the first four innings, the T-Bones (7-9) got on the board with an RBI double by Shawn O’Malley that scored Mikey Reynolds, making the score 2-1 in the fifth off Kurt Heyer.

Then the Milkmen came back with a two-run home run by Jose Rosario with Manuel Boscan on base increasing the Milkmen’s lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth off T-Bones starter Marc Magliaro. The right-hander worked six innings, giving up four earned runs.

Darnell Sweeney hit a double that allowed Ryan Brett to advance to third for Kansas City in the top of the seventh. Then, Brett ran home on a wild pitch, making the score 4-2.

Milwaukee got that run back in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs Jose Rosario singled and it looked like there would be runners at first and third. But an errant throw to first base from second baseman Dylan Tice to try to get Rosario off the bag allowed Manuel Boscan to come in to make it 5-2.

In the bottom of the eighth T-Bones reliever Jackson Lowery walked Nolan Earley with the bases loaded to score one run and Teodoro Martinez hit a sacrifice fly to center to make it 7-2 in favor of Milwaukee.

In the top of the ninth, Daniel Nava hit a double, allowing Shawn O’Malley to run home for the T-Bones. Then, Nava advanced to third on a wild pitch, letting Franco score, making the score 7-4.

Kansas City rallied but it wasn’t enough as they dropped the first game of the series to the Milwaukee Milkmen, 7-4. Heyer (2-2) was the winner, while Magliaro (1-1) was charged with the loss. Former T-Bone Myles Smith (5) earned the save.

The T-Bones continue their series with the Milwaukee Milkmen again Tuesday, June 4. The series is being played in Kokomo, Indiana, because of construction delays in Milwaukee on their new ball park.

The game will be on the T-Bones Broadcast Network at http://mixlr.com/t-bones-baseball/ with a first pitch of 5:35 p.m.

T-Bones struggle for fourth straight loss

The Kansas City T-Bones continued their four-game skid as they were defeated by the Gary South Shore RailCats, 3-1, on Saturday night during the second game of the three-game series.

Both teams’ bats were silent through the first three innings with both clubs locked in a pitcher’s duel, but it was Gary SouthShore (8-6) that jumped on Kansas City’s starting pitcher Dylan Baker (1-1) first.

After a double steal and a costly error by the T-Bones (7-7), the RailCats got on the board first in the top of the fourth, 1-0. Gary SouthShore increased their lead, 2-0, in the top of the fifth after Andy DeJesus came around to score from second on a single.

In his 2019 T-Bones debut, Daniel Nava lined a single up the middle to lead off the bottom of the fifth, but he was quickly erased from the base path on a double play by RailCats.

The RailCats upped their lead to 3-0, with a sacrifice fly to right field in the top of the sixth after Tommy Collier came on in relief of Baker.

The T-Bones made some noise in the bottom of the ninth when Carlos Franco knocked a double into left field, and then Casey Gillespie slapped a single up the middle to bring the tying run to the play with one out. Nava drove in Franco with a sacrifice fly to make it, 3-1, in favor of the RailCats in the bottom of the frame.

With a runner on second and two outs, the T-Bones were unable to tie the ball as Felix Carvallo was able to shut the door and get the save for Gary. The T-Bones have now dropped the first two games of the series and will look to salvage a game against the RailCats on Sunday. RailCats starter Trevor Lubking (3-1) would work six innings giving up just four hits to pick up the win. Baker would work five innings giving up two runs on six hits in a losing effort.

The homestand wraps up Sunday with the final game of the series set for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch at T-Bones Stadium. Sunday is Sunday Funday brought to fans by CommunityAmerica Credit Union.
