T-Bones amass 21 hits in victory over Texas team

by Alex Dean

The Kansas City T-Bones’ bats came alive Friday night as they downed the Texas AirHogs 13-6 in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Roy Morales, Casey Gillaspie and Daniel Nava each collected multiple RBI on the night, and the offense put up 13 runs on a season-high 21 hits.

Everybody in the T-Bones starting lineup recorded at least one hit on the night, with seven going for multi-hit games. A whopping six extra base hits by Kansas City allowed the T-Bones to pull away from the AirHogs in game one.

KC came out of the gates strong, scoring four runs in the first inning on a pair of two RBI hits, one a double by Roy Morales to get things started, and the other a single by Shawn O’Malley to add to the early lead.

The AirHogs got one back in the bottom half of the inning, but Roy Morales came through again for the T-Bones in the second, driving in two with a two-out, bases loaded double, giving him four RBI in the first two innings.

Things got uncomfortable for the T-Bones in the third, as four AirHogs came around to score, making it a one run ballgame at 6-5. It was looking all too familiar for the T-Bones as they were holding onto the slim lead. Things would stay that way until the fifth when Daniel Nava gave the T-Bones the jolt they needed with an RBI double.

KC added three more in the top of the eighth on a rocket off the bat of Casey Gillaspie that found the other side of the outfield fence. Two more runs came around to score in the ninth off of an RBI single and a bases-loaded walk by Christian Correa and Ramsey Romano.

Tommy Collier, (2-3), gave the T-Bones some much-needed depth, as he went six innings, giving up five runs – two of them earned. He struck out five on the night en route to his second win of the season.

Nathan Foriest and Jackson Lowery came in relief, giving up one run over a collective three innings of work. The T-Bones chased AirHogs starter Sean Stutzman (2-1) out of the game after 2.1 innings. He gave up six runs on ten hits while recording one strikeout.

The T-Bones , (12-14), will stay in Grand Prairie for game two of the series at 7:05 p.m. Saturday, June 15. Newcomer Erik Manoah (0-0) will take the mound for Kansas City. The game can be heard on the T-Bones Broadcast Network, http://mixlr.com/t-bones-baseball/.

Texas takes last game of series with T-Bones, 7-6

by Nolan Brooks

The Kansas City T-Bones, (12-13), came into game three against the Cleburne Railroaders, (13-13), looking to extend their win streak to three games and sweep the series, but Cleburne had other plans as they stole game three 7-6 with a two-run eighth inning.

Robert Calvano, (0-2), who appeared in relief for KC, was tagged the loss, and Martire Garcia, (1-1), was tagged the win for Cleburne.

There is a first time for everything, and Danny Mars proved it by smashing his first home run as a T-Bone over the right field wall to put the T-Bones up 1-0 in the top half of the first inning. The Railroaders wasted no time though after a double from Zach Nehrir and a single from Chase Simpson would tie the ballgame at one run a piece in the bottom of the first.

The bats would go quiet for both teams until a resurgence single from Roy Morales in the top of the fifth that would start a chain of events for the T-Bones. With a two-run fifth, Kansas City would take the 3-1 lead, making that the 16th run scored by the T-Bones in the fifth inning so far this year.

Cleburne would not go down quietly. After a walk and a double, a three-run rocket shot home run from Zach Nehrir put the Railroaders up 5-3 through the fifth inning.

The four-run fifth inning that ended Magliaro’s four scoreless innings, marked that as the 22nd run and fifth home run given up in the fifth inning alone this year by KC. As soon as the bats heated back up, the ice pack was applied as Cleburne and Kansas City both went quiet again, going scoreless for another four innings.

The rally towels came alive for the T-Bones in the eighth after a double from Casey Gillaspie scored two runs, and a cherry-on-top single from Roy Morales scored Gillaspie to give the T-Bones a 6-5 lead with two outs on the board.

Cleburne had their own rally towels though after a two-out triple from Grant Buck cleared the bases and give Cleburne a 7-6 lead after eight innings, breaking the T-Bones’ lead.

As soon as Kansas City seemed to have a win in their grasp, Cleburne responded with late-game heroics, ending 7-6.

The T-Bones continue their road trip as they head to take on the Texas AirHogs in a four-game series this weekend, including a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The game can be heard on the T-Bones Broadcast Network, at http://mixlr.com/t-bones-baseball/. with a first pitch set for 7:05 p.m.

Perrin and T-Bones overwhelm Railroaders, 7-1

by Luke Schrock

The Kansas City T-Bones (11-13) have won two straight after their 7-1 win Wednesday in Texas against the third place holder in the South (12-13), Cleburne Railroaders.

Four T-Bones had multi-hit games to tally a total of 12 for the team on the day. Ramsey Romano and Danny Mars started the scoring for Kansas City with Romano hitting an RBI double and Mars with an RBI single.

The T-Bones scored in every other inning until the dry spell in the 7th and 8th innings, but they ended the game with one more insurance run to dash the Railroaders’ series hopes.

In the 4th inning Danny Mars struck again with an RBI single, scoring Roy Morales on an earned run, and Dylan Tice had a sacrifice fly to center field where Ryan Brett scored on another earned run.

Mars and Tice wouldn’t be done yet in the 6th inning as Mars does a job and grounds out but scores Morales again to make the lead 5-1.

After Tice hits an RBI single, the score remained 6-1 until the top of the 9th, when Romano earned his second RBI of the day, scoring Casey Gillaspie.

Pitching was phenomenal for the T-Bones as Jon Perrin earned his first quality start and win in KC, and the pitching staff only let up one earned run the entire game.

Perrin (1-0) ended his night with seven innings pitched, five hits, one earned run, two walks and six strikeouts. Eudis Idrogo (1-2) had a final line of five innings pitched, six hits, four earned runs, two walks and 10 strikeouts–the most strikeouts he has thrown this season.

Kansas City and Cleburne will have one more game Thursday, starting at 7:06 p.m., to end the 3-game series. The game can be heard on the T-Bones Broadcast Network, http://mixlr.com/t-bones-baseball/.
