The T-Bones have signed right-handed pitcher Derek Gordon.

Gordon, who is a younger brother of Royals’ outfielder Alex Gordon, was a four-year starter at Park University where he posted a career record of 24-8 with a 3.35 ERA and 172 strikeouts in 212 innings pitched. Gordon has the most career wins and strikeouts in school history, setting both marks during his senior season.

The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Gordon went 6-3 with a 3.12 ERA and 52 strikeouts for the Pirates in 2014, leading the team in all three categories.

He was expected to be ready to play in the current Winnipeg three-game series.

In other roster moves, the T-Bones have placed pitcher Mike Nannini on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release, and they have placed pitcher Derek Loera on the disabled list.

The T-Bones battled late, but the Winnipeg Goldeyes held on to a 5-3 win over Kansas City on Tuesday afternoon in Winnipeg, Canada.

The Kansas City offense got off to a quick start against Winnipeg starter Ethan Hollingsworth (2-0) with back-to-back hits in the first inning. T.J. Mittlestaedt opened the game with a bloop double to left field and advanced to third on a single by Bryan Sabatella. Mittlestaedt gave Kansas City a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly by David Espinosa.

The lead was short-lived, however, as the Goldeyes started their first inning with four consecutive singles against T-Bones starting pitcher Andy Noga (0-3), who allowed Winnipeg to take a 2-1 lead. Former T-Bones outfielder Ray Sadler and Casey Haerther each had RBI hits.

Winnipeg added to its lead with home runs by Haerther and Reggie Abercrombie in the third and sixth innings off Noga, who allowed eight hits over 6 innings.

Kansas City rallied in the seventh inning with RBI hits from Jonny Kaplan and Darrell Hudson that pulled the T-Bones to within two runs at 5-3, but the rally fell short when reliever Taylor Sewitt struck out Sabatella with the bases loaded.

The T-Bones (22-22) continue their three-game series with Winnipeg (29-14) Wednesday night, with the first pitch slated for 7. All of the action can be heard on 1660-AM or online at tbonesbaseball.com.

There’s more than just special Fourth of July fireworks planned at the T-Bones game on Friday, July 4 in Kansas City, Kan.

There’s also a very special event in the life of former T-Bones’ pitcher Jonathan Krysa. He will get married to his fiancée, Stacy Folsom, during the brief intermission between the game and fireworks.

Krysa has made more appearances than any other pitcher in T-Bones history. He’s chosen the pitching mount at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on Friday night, July 4, as the place he will be married.

The T-Bones are scheduled to play at 7:05 that night against Sioux Falls with special holiday fireworks after the game. Krysa and his fiancée, Stacy Folsom, will exchange vows during the brief intermission between the game and the fireworks.

Krysa, a Kansas City area native who pitched collegiately at Rockhurst University, played five seasons for the T-Bones, 2003-2007. He holds several club career pitching records including appearances (90), games started (79), innings (547) and strikeouts (445), and he’s second in all-time wins (30). Krysa set the team record for strikeouts in a game in 2005, when he struck out 13 batters at Calgary. In 2012 he was selected for the T-Bones 10th Anniversary Team.
