Goldeyes complete sweep of T-Bones

The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored six runs in the second inning, and went on to beat Kansas City, 18-10, Thursday night at Shaw Park in Winnipeg, Canada.

Winnipeg, which swept the three-game series en route to its eighth straight win, took advantage of six consecutive hits in the second inning off of Kansas City starting pitcher Kyle DeVore (2-2), including Ray Sadler’s ninth home run of the season. In getting the loss, DeVore gave up seven runs and 11 hits in 3 innings.

Even without DeVore in the game, the Goldeyes continued their offensive show by scoring three more in the fourth and two in the fifth off Kansas City reliever Matt Smith. They then tacked on six runs against Chris Squires. Derek Gordon, who made his T-Bones debut, pitched 1 inning and was the only Kansas City pitcher who didn’t allow a run.

Kansas City got on the board with an exciting five-run sixth, which featured RBI hits from David Espinosa, Byron Wiley and Nick Schwaner that pulled the T-Bones to within 12-5. Wiley and Bryan Sabatella each had three hits, including a double, for the T-Bones. Wiley accounted for half of Kansas City’s runs with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Winnipeg starting pitcher Nick Hernandez (5-0) got the win in spite giving up five runs and eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.

The T-Bones (22-24) look to get back on track with a six-game homestand beginning Friday night at 7:05 at Community America Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. Fireworks are planned after the game. Three-run seventh sinks T-Bones

The Goldeyes scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and held off the T-Bones for the final six outs in a 7-5 win over Kansas City at Shaw Park in Winnipeg, Canada, on Wednesday night.

Winnipeg took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Luis Allen came in to score on a two-out fielding error by shortstop Darrell Hudson.

The T-Bones responded, however, with a four-run third inning, taking a 4-1 lead. Kansas City got back-to-back singles from Brian Erie and Hudson followed by a walk to T.J. Mittelstaedt that loaded the bases. The T-Bones then got RBI hits from Bryan Sabatella (2) and David Espinosa. The T-Bones had another bases loaded opportunity in the third when Jonny Kaplan was intentionally walked to bring Nick Schawaner to the plate. Schwaner grounded into a double play that ended the threat.

Holding onto a 4-3 lead, starter Rick Zagone turned the ball over to the bullpen, but Jared Messer (1-1) gave up four runs in 1 2/3 innings pitched, including three in the bottom of the seventh.

The T-Bones got the leadoff man aboard in the eighth and ninth innings, but were unable to solve the Goldeyes bullpen for the second consecutive game.

The win gave Winnipeg (30-14) its seventh win in a row, and Kansas City (22-23) dropped its second in a row, and fell back below .500.

The two teams conclude their three-game series Thursday night at 6 in Winnipeg. All of the action can be heard on 1660-AM or online at tbonesbaseball.com.
