Laredo, Texas – Perhaps Friday night for the T-Bones and the Laredo Lemurs ended — at least for now — appropriately. In a 9-9 tie after 10 innings, suspended due to the league curfew rule.

After all, each team took the lead on a four-run inning late in the game, only to see it vanish.

First up was Laredo. With Kansas City leading 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh, the Lemurs tagged T-Bones relief pitchers Pat Doyle and Hamilton Bennett for four runs (two each). Doyle gave up a lead-off single to Travis Denker and then, after recording two outs, walked former T-Bones infielder Devin Goodwin. Bennett came in and promptly walked Byron Wiley, another former T-Bones player, before Carlos Ramirez hit a grand slam that gave the Lemurs a 7-5 lead.

In the top of the ninth, though, after Matt Padgett and Nick Schwaner reached base with singles, Bryan Sabatella roped a double off Tyler Pearson that scored Padgett and Schwaner, and tied the game. Three batters later, after Vladimir Frias and Brian Erie walked, Robby Kuzdale singled to left, scoring Sabatella and Frias. That gave Kansas City a 9-7 lead with All-Star closer Kris Regas entering the game.

Regas retired the first two Lemurs he faced before walking Ramirez. A Harrison Kain double and Nick Van Stratten triple later, the game was tied at 9-9 after nine innings.

After neither team scored in the 10th, umpires suspended the game shortly after midnight according to the American Association curfew rule.

Kansas City (36-39) and Laredo (42-32) will conclude their suspended game at 6 p.m. Saturday, with game two of the four-game series scheduled to start at 7:30.

Wednesday night’s series finale between St. Paul and the T-Bones was postponed because of rain.

It has been rescheduled as part of a doubleheader (seven-inning games) on Friday night, Aug. 29, starting at 6:05, when the St. Paul returns to Kansas City to finish the regular season.

Kansas City (36-39) will begin a seven-game road trip Friday night at Laredo (42-32). First pitch is scheduled for 7:30.

St. Paul starting pitcher Drew Gay shut down the T-Bones on Tuesday night with a 5-0 victory at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan.

Gay (5-0) pitched 7 1/3 innings, giving up three hits, no runs, two walks and six strikeouts in just his fourth start of the year.

Kansas City didn’t get its first base runner until there was one out in the fifth inning. In the inning, trailing 1-0, Nick Schwaner walked and went to third on a base hit by Bryan Sabatella. On the play, Sabatella went to second base.

Kansas City, however, was unable to score as Gay retired Vladimir Frias and Brian Erie. The next inning, the T-Bones had runners at the corners with one out but couldn’t score after Danny Richar was caught stealing and Matt Padgett struck out.

Kyle DeVore took a tough luck loss for the T-Bones. He threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing only four hits and one run. DeVore (3-5) walked two and struck out seven.

The Saints added four runs in the ninth inning. Keith Brachold homered, Jared McDonald chipped in a two-RBI double and Angelo Songco scored McDonald on a single.

St. Paul’s first run came in the second inning. DeVore hit Saints’ center fielder Evan Bigley with a pitch. Bigley stole second, and would come around to score on a Brachold single.

With the loss, the T-Bones (36-39) drop the third game of this four-game series against St. Paul (43-31). Kansas City will go for a series split Wednesday night at 7:05. Tickets are available by calling the Providence Medical Center Box Office at CommunityAmerica Ballpark at 913-328-5618.
