Opening day roster announced

The Kansas City T-Bones are scheduled to open the regular season at 7:05 p.m. Friday night against Lincoln at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, Kansas City, Kan.

Manager John Massarelli is listing 23 active players on the opening day roster.

Nine players who finished the 2014 season with Kansas City are on the opening day roster including pitchers Casey Barnes, Kyle DeVore, Derek Loera, Jared Messer, the club’s Player of the Year Kris Regas and Joe VanMeter, along with shortstop Vladimir Frias, outfielder Robby Kuzdale, and catcher Brian Erie.

Among the 14 newcomers in 2015, seven have direct ties to Kansas City. Pitchers Aaron Baker and Blake Holovach, infielder Jake Blackwood, who played for the T-Bones during 2009-10, and utility player Nate Tenbrink all are from the Kansas City area.

Pitcher Josh Tols, who’s from Australia, played collegiately at Rockhurst University; outfielder Adam Bailey, who played at the University of Nebraska, lives in Overland Park; and outfielder C.J. Henry played basketball at the University of Kansas.

One player, pitcher Fernando Hernandez, has major-league experience, while Bailey, Frias, Regas, and Tenbrink all have reached triple-A during their careers.

In order to get the roster to 23 players, the T-Bones released pitcher Garrett Granitz and outfielder Jordan Hurtt.

Goldeyes blast T-Bones, 12-4

The Winnipeg Goldeyes captured Sunday’s exhibition game with the T-Bones with a 12-4 final score at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, Kansas City, Kan.

The T-Bones had 10 hits in the loss. Fernando Hernandez was the starting pitcher for the T-Bones, allowing six runs in three innings.

Today, the T-Bones travel to Wichita for another exhibition game, and then to Joplin for an exhibition game on Tuesday.

The regular season for the T-Bones begins at 7:05 p.m. Friday, May 22, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, Kansas City, Kan., when Lincoln visits.

Goldeyes beat T-Bones, 2-1

The Winnipeg Goldeyes won the first game 2-1 of a three-game exhibition series with the T-Bones in action Friday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark, Kansas City, Kan.

Scoring on a single from Nate Tenbrink in the first inning was Jake Blackwood for the T-Bones.

Joe Van Meter, starting for the T-Bones, pitched a one-run game during five innings.

With reliever Garrett Granitz pitching for the T-Bones, the Goldeyes went ahead in the sixth inning, when Josh Mazzola hit a sacrifice fly that scored Adam Heisler.

Another exhibition game with the Goldeyes is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Saturday in Kansas City, Kan. The T-Bones open the season Friday, May 22, with a game against Lincoln at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
