T-Bones sign three players, trade Gallas

The Kansas City T-Bones recently signed pitcher Rich Mascheri and infielders Chase McDonald and Avery Romero to contracts for the 2017 season.

Mascheri, 27 (08-07-89), is a 5-foot-10 and 190-pound left-handed pitcher from Wauconda, Ill.

He split time last season between Southern Illinois of the independent Frontier League and Somerset of the independent Atlantic League. He went 1-0 with a 2.08 ERA in 16 appearances. In 17 1/3 innings, Mascheri struck out 21 and walked four.

Mascheri started his professional career in the New York Yankees’ organization in 2012. He reached high-A Tampa in 2012 and ’13. In four professional seasons, Mascheri is 5-2 with 12 saves and a 2.45 ERA in 63 games, all in relief.

McDonald, 24 (06-02-92), is 6-foot-4 and 255 pounds out of Greenville, N.C. He has spent the first four seasons of his professional career in the Houston Astros’ organization.

Last season, at double-A Corpus Christi, McDonald hit .227 with 89 hits, 17 home runs, 53 RBIs and 40 runs scored in 109 games.

The previous season, at high-A Lancaster, McDonald hit 30 home runs. In four seasons, McDonald is a .259 hitter with 69 home runs and 233 RBIs.

Romero, 23 (05-11-93), is 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds from St. Augustine, Fla. He has spent the first five seasons of his professional career in the Miami organization, after the Marlins selected him in the third round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft out of high school.

Romero split the 2016 season between high-A Jupiter and double-A Jacksonville, batting .236 with 87 hits in 111 games. Romero is a career .271 hitter with 457 hits, including 86 doubles, four triples, 18 home runs, 189 RBIs and 196 runs scored in 460 games.

Additionally, the T-Bones traded Anthony Gallas to St. Paul in exchange for a player to be determined. Gallas hit .221 with 48 RBIs and 59 runs in 91 games for Kansas City last season.

The T-Bones open the 2017 regular season at home on May 19 against Lincoln.

T-Bones sign outfielder and two pitchers

The Kansas City T-Bones have signed outfielder Kevin Keyes and two pitchers — Will Morris and Chris Perry — to contracts for the 2017 season.

Keyes, 28 (03-15-89), who is 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds out of Austin, Texas, has spent all seven years of his professional career in the Washington Nationals’ farm system.

He split time in 2016 between double-A Harrisburg and triple-A Syracuse, batting a combined .204 with 66 hits, including 12 home runs, 45 RBIs and 35 runs scored.

Keyes’ best season was 2015 when he split time between Harrisburg and Syracuse, and batted .248 with 117 hits. The previous season, 2014, Keyes hit 20 home runs at Harrisburg. The Nationals selected Keyes in the seventh round of the 2010 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the University of Texas.

Morris, 23 (05-02-93), is a 6-foot-4 and 180-pound right hander from Las Vegas, Nev. In 2016, splitting time between high-A Clearwater and double-A Reading in the Philadelphia Phillies’ organization, Morris went 9-4 with a 3.68 ERA in 28 games (14 starts). He struck out 59 and walked 25 in 107 2/3 innings.

The Phillies selected Morris in the 24th round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the College of Southern Nevada. In four professional seasons, Morris is 18-10 with three saves, a 3.04 ERA, 179 strikeouts and 55 walks in 89 games (23 starts).

Perry, 26 (07-15-90), is a 6-foot-2 and 215-pound right hander from Cary, N.C. He has spent the first four seasons of his professional career in the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization, after the club selected him in the 17th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Methodist College.

Last season, Perry went 1-2 with a 3.38 ERA in 37 relief appearances. He struck out 60 and walked 40 in 53 1/3 innings. Perry has a career record of 12-13 with 20 saves and a 3.29 ERA. In 143 games (13 starts), Perry has a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 274-125.

T-Bones sign three pitchers

The Kansas City T-Bones announced they have signed three pitchers — Aaron Brooks, Calvin Drummond and Mark McCoy — to contracts for the 2017 season.

Brooks, 24 (05-15-92), is a 6-foot-6 and 210-pound right hander from Mountlake Terrace, Wash. Last season, splitting time between the Seattle Mariners’ high-A and double-A teams, Brooks went 4-1 with three saves and a 4.46 ERA, with 59 strikeouts and 23 walks in 76 2/3 innings.

The Mariners selected Brooks in the 26th round of the 2012 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Edmonds Community College (Wash.). In five professional seasons, all in the Seattle organization, Brooks is 11-10 with a 3.95 ERA. He has struck out 190 and walked 62 in 227 2/3 innings.

Drummond, 27 (09-22-89), is a 6-foot-3 and 200-pound right hander from Huntington Beach, Calif. He split time last season between the Detroit Tigers’ high-A and double-A teams. He went 1-4 with a 3.34 ERA in 25 appearances (six starts).

The Tigers selected Drummond in the sixth round of the 2013 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Arizona Christian University. In four professional seasons, Drummond is 14-11 with 10 saves and a 3.12 ERA. He has struck out 242 and walked 108.

McCoy, 22 (04-30-94), is a 6-foot-2 and 200-pound left hander from Barnegat, N.J. He has spent the first two years of his professional career in the Kansas City Royals’ organization, reaching high-A Wilmington in 2016. Splitting time between Wilmington and single-A Lexington last season, he went 4-5 with a 5.73 ERA in 35 games.

The Royals selected McCoy in the 29th round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Rutgers. He is 6-6 with a 4.55 ERA in 49 career games. He has 90 strikeouts and 57 walks.
