T-Bones win in 14 innings over Wichita

A five-hour, 14-inning game ended with a T-Bones’ win on Tuesday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas.

The T-Bones beat the Wichita Wingnuts, 7-6, when Patrick Brady hit a single to drive in the final run in the 14th inning.

The game opened with a two-run home run by the T-Bones’ Zach Walters in the first inning.

Another home run was scored by Leo Vargas of the T-Bones. The T-Bones’ designated hitter Kevin Keyes hit a home run as well.

The T-Bones’ Eddie Newton doubled and then scored on a hit from Keyes to make the score 5-0.

Wichita went on the scoreboard with Brent Clevlen singling to score a run in the seventh and the score was T-Bones 5, Wichita 1. Wichita scored two more runs and it was 5-3.

Two more runs came in for Wichita in the ninth inning. The game was tied and went into extra innings.

T.J. Mittlestaedt with the Wichita Wingnuts got a home run in the top of the 11th inning to take the lead. The T-Bones came back to score one in the bottom of the 11th on a sacrifice fly.

In the 14th inning, Brady hit a single to score Keyes and the T-Bones won.

The next T-Bones’ game is at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday against Wichita, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas. It is the final game of the series with Wichita. For tickets, call 913-328-5618 or go to the Providence Medical Center Box Office.

T-Bones rally to win in bottom of ninth

Back-to-back three-run innings fueled a T-Bones comeback win, 9-8, on Monday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas.

The T-Bones would strike first as centerfielder Omar Garcia worked his way around the diamond, stealing second and then third to open up an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The Wingnuts quickly responded with a 2-run home run from left fielder Brennen Salgado off righthanded pitcher Gabe Perez to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the second.

Shortstop Eddie Newton responded with an RBI single to tie the game up at 2-2 to close out the second inning.

The top of the fourth allowed the Wingnuts to regain the lead, 4-2, with two base hits bringing in two runs. Right fielder Chantz Mack answered adding his first home run with the T-Bones organization, a solo home run, narrowing the margin, 4-3.

Wichita continued to have a response for everything the T-Bones threw at them. Shortstop Leo Vargas launched a 3-run home run into left field to extend the Wingnuts lead to four, 7-3, in the top of the sixth.

Then right fielder Richard Prigatano added a solo home run to stretch the Wingnuts’ lead to five, 8-3.

Kansas City kept things interesting in the bottom of the eighth inning with a Garcia single to centerfield the brought in two runs, 8-5. Third baseman, Marcus Lemon followed up with a single of his own to right field to score Eddie Newton, cutting the Wingnut lead to two, 8-6.

Mack added to his big opening night with an RBI double to right field off Wichita reliever Mike Devine to bring the T-Bones within one run, 8-7, in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Garcia then walked to bring in a run, tying the game at eight, followed by a Lemon walkoff walk to complete the T-Bones the 9-8 comeback win.

“The guys kept on battling. If you have a team that doesn’t want to quit then you have a chance. It was sweet that we could get the win for our fans,” manager Joe Calfapietra said.

The T-Bones will continue a three game series with Wichita at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday in CommunityAmerica ballpark. There will be a 15th Anniversary game special with 2003 ticket prices and a 15th anniversary poster giveaway.

T-Bones’ Correa to go to Colorado team

The Kansas City T-Bones announced that catcher Christian Correa has been sold to the Colorado Rockies organization.

Christian Correa, joined Kansas City on May 17, after beginning the year with the Houston Astros High A Club Buies Creek in the Carolina League. Correa played in eight games for Kansas City this season, hitting .215 with one home run and five RBIs. His one homer was an inside the park round trip May 30th at Gary SouthShore.

Correa, was a non-drafted free agent for Houston out of Nicholls State University (Louisiana) and spent parts of three season with the Astros, before joining the T-Bones. The native of Coconut Creek, Florida, hit .203 with the Houston organization with five home runs and 28 RBIs in 106 games.

Behind the plate, Correa caught 46 percent (18 of 39) of base runners in 2016 and caught three this season in 15 attempts for Kansas City. He was the opening night starter for Kansas City going 1-for-2 in his T-Bones debut.

Correa is the 28th T-Bones player whose contract has been sold to a major-league organization, and fourth since the end of the 2016 season. In October, the Miami Marlins purchased outfielder Dalton Wheat’s contract, and then the Colorado Rockies purchased pitcher David Holman’s contract in December. In February, left-handed pitcher Mike Kickham was sold to the Miami Marlins.
